I don't particularly care about all the subjects that you talk about on your channel but the more I watch digital foundry the more I enjoy it. The main reason is because you guys just don't sit there and have a negative kind of attitude about everything. You seem to have a simple or maybe a strong appreciation for technology, graphics in gaming, and appear to at least be forward-thinking. Instead of bashing RTX and talking about its limitations in its infancy, only, you at least understand the difficulty in bringing it to real time and appreciate what's there. That is how those who love technology should present things in their videos. KZbinrs are to negative and cynical these days and just love controversy. And it's really shame on them because they should know better. Especially, if they claim to be lovers of technology or at least come off as that in the channel name. All gamers should be embracing the technologies that are going to help gaming be a much better experience immersively and visually even if they can't afford it. That is the real issue here anyway I think and the fact that AMD has nothing real good to offer in the GPU sector to push any new technologies. Anyhow, great job on another well-presented video which was actually informing.

@@Ryusennin Personally I think they presented what they were trying to convey well. I never said they were experts. I watch a lot of KZbin videos trying to get a sense of things in the gaming world and with technology like ray tracing, etc etc. And that interest me because I have a 2080 Ti card.and I didn't buy it for the ray tracing and dlss but just because it's the fastest card out there right now and it's my first. Not that I don't have any knowledge of ray tracing and other things but it's nice to see what other people have to show. For me personally when new technologies come out I want to see what they're capable of. Not what they're not capable of because I really doesn't matter to me. Simply because they wouldn't change anything. Just like if I was going to buy a truck to do specific tasks. I don't care what the truck can't do. I care what the truck can do that will help me finish my tasks. Obviously people can nitpick at anything they want and everything so that matter but I don't really see the point in that. and that's what a lot of KZbinrs and social media does today. There's very few that are actually objective in the truest sense. And I am not saying digital foundry presents what's a present perfectly. But I did enjoy the fact that this video wasn't bashing battlefield 5, bashing Nvidia, bashing RTX, etc etc. And bashing doesn't mean you have to be cursing in the process. Bashing also involves just speaking lowly of things that really could be just presented to an audience and let them make a decision on their own. there is actually a way to present information in a neutral fashion. Here I think they did a good job for the most part. And they did present some negatives but in a very professional fashion. Some of the other KZbinrs out there were saying things that I was wondering where they got the information. And that concerns me because it seems more of an opinion than actual fact or possibility. Sorry for any thought or grammatical mistakes. I'm on my cell phone using talk to text and don't have a lot of time to get my thoughts together. 😁

I'm glad you mentioned Crysis 1 because that's exactly what I was thinking of throughout the video. People on the internet seem to have a short memory but the now iconic Crysis 1 was a complete disaster in terms of optimization and performance, with only a handful of computers being able to run it at playable frame rates at respectable settings. But the upside was groundbreaking visuals, which, to this day, are considered a benchmark. It's no doubt that Battlefield V will likely go down as the torch bearer for real time ray tracing but for it to do that we will have to suffer terrible performance for now. Of course, the argument can be made that no one had released specialized hardware for Crysis back in the day while the RTX cards are designed for a game such as Battlefield V and still fall short but Battlefield V is just one game that is still being worked upon. It's likely other games won't have such a big performance delta and will improve over time using patches and driver updates.

@postscriptum81425 жыл бұрын
They are new to gaming.
@AustinAwsome5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I unfortunately see that a lot with any topic related to ray tracing in gaming. For some reason a lot of gamers don't understand how taxing in performance real time ray-tracing is, it's not an easy task whatsoever. Anyone who even knows a little bit about 3D rendering knows that this new technology is a marvel for realism in gaming, it's been around years in CG software (such as for CG effects and animation) but never to the extent of performance it's at now where doing it real-time is possible. I don't see any CG artists complaining about ray-tracing, so far the gaming consumers (gamers not developers) are the only community complaining about ray-tracing. I completely understand as of right know with the current RTX cards (2070, 2080, and 2080ti) getting 60FPS or higher on high settings even at 1080p never-mind 4K is difficult due to the lack of power on the GPUs but that is completely understandable on a technology this new in terms of gameplay performance (not tech demos which have done ray-tracing years before RTX). It is incredibly short-sighted an misinforming that so many people bash and are dismissive of ray-tracing simply because of the "low" performance of it in first-generation games. Digital Foundary within the video even stated that new breakthrough technologies have always had their share in hard-hitting performance even on high end components (i.e Crysis 1) but I guess no one either cared or understood the comparison from then to now. Being a graphics guy myself if I owned a RTX card I really wouldn't mind playing at 30 FPS if I could see how good the game looked, I love high frame-rates but sometimes I like to appreciate the details the developers put in their games and I don't mind sacrificing some frames for more detail, it's the same reason I have a 4K60Hz panel instead of a 1440p144Hz or 1080p240Hz monitor (I like detail more than fluidity, I don't play game competitively just casually). I completely understand not getting a current gen ray-tracing card, even with the low end being $499, it's currently not worth it for ray-traced gaming (also since there are so little ray-traced games), even the highest end RTX card doesn't play nice with performance at high resolutions such as 4K which are much more common nowadays. But that's what comes with being on the bleeding-edge of new technology, it's always extremely expensive to be ahead of the curve. Only 5-6 years ago 4K displays where common to be found at $500 or more, now it's not uncommon to see 4K monitors at $200 (sometimes less Used). So I honestly don't know where the hate towards ray-tracing comes from, yeah Nvidia hyped up RTX more than they should of but that's what marketing does, I don't know of any company that tells 100% honesty in marketing. That's just how marketing works, if you believe what companies are marking you, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

One thing I've not seen mentioned anywhere really is the potential impact of ray tracing on VR where it's a huge step up. When you have two view ports which both need to be accurate, the "tricks" that have been used for years just don't really work well anymore. RTX as it's currently being used wont completely fix the issues, but it's a major step in the right direction. As an example, take a look at the old vireio issues with getting Skyrim running in VR. The short version, there were some really nasty problems with shadows. Note: This isn't a "it wasn't designed for VR" issue in any real sense, it's a "we use hacks for things like shadows so they run fast" issue. The same applies for lighting, reflection, and shadows for every game I can think of. We've come up with a lot of clever hacks for all sorts of things, but when you try and apply them to VR they often look horrible. The next big graphics push will end up requiring better ray tracing or path tracing, and a massive increase in poly/tri counts.

Yeah well Metro is actually designed around that (which I love). Same goes for the Mirrors Edge games, Dead Space and I believe recently even Red Dead 2. Raytracing warms my PC gamer's heart. Yes first-gen tech runs like crap and costs too high - but it was the same every time a revolutionary feature happened. Voodoo1 with its first consumer 3D acceleration, GeForce 3Ti with its programmable shaders, Radeon 9700 with its DX9/Pixel Shader 2 implementation (not to mention GeForce FX), hardware tessellation of DX11 that obliterated Radeons that first implemented it. But all those are now so common in games and your modern mid-range GPU wouldn't even call any of those a challenge nowadays.

Remember, in the interview DICE said they weren't even using the tensor cores for denoising the ray traced reflections, that could be a HUGE performance boost since the CUDA cores don't have to anti-alias the shit out of noisy ray traced outputs created by the RT cores. They also said another optimization could help increase framerate up to 30%. Clearly those optimizations haven't been implemented because this is basically the same performance we saw at the nvidia conference where they showed the demo of this game running with RTX.

Why do people think that a new way of rendering things is going to have some kind of amazing performance on the first hardware that’s capable of even doing it? Ray tracing is the future and at least Nvidia are working towards making it a reality. Of course it’s going to be a resource hog just look at the difference it makes! How long did it take to get to where we’re at with the current way of doing things? Cards will get better with ray tracing, devs will get better at using it, and games will continue to look better and better for it.

A lot of Xbox fan boys like to think they're getting similar results to a PC, however, in reality, you're getting what you paid for. Low to mid tier spec'd machine that can't run at true 4K and at ultra settings. And yes, I could build a PC for $500. Easy. Buy an optiplex 790 with an i5 2400 (which is considerably better than the CPU in the Xbox), 8GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard dribe for $100. Buy a new power supply for $40. RX 580 8GB for $140. And if we want to take into account the $60 extra dollars you're pay for online, you could have $80 to spare on a good Keyboard and mouse. This PC would be able to run at similar settings at 4k as your Xbox. Or, drop the resolution to 1800p since that's what the Xbox one X runs at mostly.
