Really cool to see 40 Leadenhall nearly complete, at least externally. Now we can see it's true impact on the skyline. I really like the setbacks. It makes it more visually interesting. You can also now see that 8 Bishopsgate is far too close to 22 Bishopsgate. You can hardly distinguish the buildings from each other. 22 Bishopsgate was already a huge mass and 8 Bishopsgate compounds that. I'm sure the tenants on the south side of 22 Bishopsgate were none too pleased to have their views blocked by the new building.

OMG . . . London has a building shaped like a canned ham. Lol!

This video does a good job of illustrating the "skyscraper knot" being created in The City. I can't think of any place on earth where Grade A skyscrapers are packed together so tightly. This will especially be the case once approved buildings like 1 Undershaft, 100 Leadenhall, and 1 Leadenhall are completed. This has a number of disadvantages - it decreases the value of existing buildings because views are blocked, causes street level downdraughts, overloads infrastructure, and makes for a less impressive skyline because the views of so many buildings are blocked (the Gherkin is a good example). This is why in New York they require building set backs and strictly enforce "air rights". I know that this is to preserve the view corridors of St. Paul's, but London is really making a mistake here.

I totally agree mate seems a shame to have such beautiful buildings blocked from view! Sounds like New York have a good system in place! Thanks for the info mate and thankyou for watching! Always appreciated! 🙂

They have no option unfortunately, land is tight in the city, mostly listed buildings, so the developers have to work with what’s available.
@ians3586 Жыл бұрын
@@OnlyAnOpinion20 There are areas that were badly bombed during the war, especially to the east of the skyscraper cluster, that don't have many listed buildings. Also, land is less expensive as you go east. My view is that they should be building higher to the east and north. Away from St. Paul's.
@OnlyAnOpinion20 Жыл бұрын
@@ians3586 yeah, but they also have to make sure it's within the city of London boundaries, it doesn't affect St Paul's views and if you check the land registry, plots are normally odd shaped and close to another plot. I know what you're saying and I do agree, they should be building upward, but unfortunately they have so many restrictions I'm surprised they get anything built.

Shame that the towers will be going dark after 11 pm.
