@ianalen1687

But why the displacement continues even when the strip of zinc is already fully covered in copper atoms? Next copper atoms are in fact attaching to the already earlier deposited copper atoms. Your animation 3:26 would explain for a thin layer of Cu atoms on the surface of the strip which would trap zinc atoms inside.

good morning ! why copper is less reactive than zinc although it's before zinc in periodic table ? what determines reactivity of metals apart from valence electrons ?
@arminakbari47
@arminakbari47 2 жыл бұрын
Answer: We find, Zinc is placed higher than Copper in the Electro-chemical Series, since Zinc is more reactive than Copper. Now, the reason is that Zinc loses its valence electrons more easily than Copper to take part in a reaction.

Question here. Why the copper is black instead of being red/brown? Also, why bubbles are formed? The third question is why copped is not in the form of a evenly distributed thin layer. Could anyone answer these questions please?

If we change the zinc stripe to zinc powder and complete the displacement of copper from copper sulphate, the resulting powder is rather grey than red, just a tint of reddish brown. Any explanation why the colour differs from pure copper powder (maroon red) so much? Thanks!
