Ubon Ratchathani, commonly known as Ubon, is the second-largest province in the Northeast of Thailand after Nakhon Ratchasima and the fifth-largest in the country. As of 2022, it has a total population of approximately 1,800,000 people. The province boasts a long history, evidenced by ancient historical and archaeological sites, such as the rock paintings at Pha Taem National Park. Ubon also features numerous significant tourist attractions, with the candle procession being one of its most famous traditions. The province is bordered by Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Sisaket, Laos, and Cambodia.
Ubon Ratchathani International Airport has a standard runway that can accommodate passengers from Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Yasothon and Amnat Charoen provinces, as well as passengers from neighboring countries (southern Laos). It is currently the commercial aviation hub of the lower northeastern region.
