$4K EV Track Day Car Build // Project Mango Episode 1 // CHINA DRIVER

After a long hiatus - we are back! Building an EV Track Day Car has not really been done much before. So why not build one, based off of one of the cheapest new cars availabe in China today - the LETIN MANGO.
Join me as we test drive this little hatch, and then do the first round of modifications.

Safety standards willing, this concept would work much better as a Kei car (Daihatsu Copen, Honda S660 etc.) than a hatch. Hopefully, one of these EV companies would at least entertain the notion of a Kei-styled Sports EV. Multi-link suspension, brembo brakes, extra seats removed, low suspension & maybe some lower-weight aluminium panels... This would be a fun little biscuit tin.

From a dimensional & weight point of view, this compares well to the Suzuki Celerio which is no bad thing as IMHO, the Celerio is a truly brilliant example of 'minimalist', cost-optimised automotive engineering. The boot looks small but I'd judge it to about the same as wifey's original Toyota Aygo (100-ish litres??) & importantly bigger than the non-existant boot of the, Wuling Mini EV. Tell Levdeo to beef up its safety specs and then bring it to our plague-infested, Disunited Kingdom where I will willingly part with cash to be their first customer!

Yes, small boot - but with the bag seats flat its not too bad! I have not driven it yet - it should be fun at 700kg. They are exporting to Brazil already I think.

25KW motor? So 33.7 horse power? Assuming that is 25KW of output power, not 25KW input power. Why would anyone get one of these when you can get something much more fun, fast, and powerful at 1/4 of the price used. You'd also be able to get spare parts.

The brand in Chinese is 雷丁芒果 ( lei ding mang go ). How come they write Letin Mengo ? Is it Chinese nature that have careless spelling check as always ?

We were wondering that too - its clearly a Mango, but an error was made somewhere and it was called Mengo!

@@electricelliotrichards I think Chinese local brands mostly have errors. They are explicitly never care. I doubt not only just outside label, but their internal parts too. I do not recommend wasting our life to drive such careless brand.

A lot of native English speakers can't tell the difference between then and than, so I guess it carries over to mengo and mango for Chinese.
