Some important notes and my final thoughts: 1. Watch the video in 4K and full screen ;-) 2. The 4K Gamer Pro does his job better than the Mclassic IMO as long you like sharp scale and don't miss any kind of smoothing filter. Most importantly it provides three different selectable levels of enhancement, so some control to fit your preference. It doesn't change the saturation or overexpose the image to an extent as the mclassic does. As a fan of sharp pixels with 3D games above 240p I think it's a great option for HDMI video game consoles as Retrotink5x PRO owners. Switch and retro games with any kind of anti-aliasing or soft filter e.x. bloom, interpolation is where the 4K Gamer Pro shines the most. For example original XBOX games., PS3, XBOX 360 games etc. BTW you can combine the 4K sharp output with the Retrotink5xx smoothing filter. This unit was provided by 4K Gamer Pro team. The video represents my honest opinion and I think it's quite balanced. 3. Increasing shaprness on your TV and using 4K Gamer Pro is not the same. 4. The 4K Gamer Pro DOES work with the Mclassic out of the box! Is it worth it? I let you decide: twitter.com/WobblingP/status/1536419203376467969 This way you could also use the 4K Gamer Pro with the OSSC: OSSC -> Mclassic -> 4K Gamer Pro. 5. Most 4K capture cards adds some compression to 4K footage including mine. So the difference between 4K and 1080p should be (slightly) more pronounced than in this video. Nevertheless I think the video showcases the noticeable difference quite well. 6. Check the video description where to get the 4K Gamer Pro.
@@DrLilo I think I should have mentioned it. Increasing shaprness on your TV and using 4K Gamer Pro will not result in the same shaprness and image quality.

IMO the sharpening unpleasantly emphasizes all the jagged edges in low-rez 3D, and the halos mar 2D. However, it's starting to look compelling in the PS4 content, and it at least does produce better quality sharpening than you're likely to see through the TV's menu setting.

Reminds me of how the PSP looks on the PSP’s screen the way it enhances the aliasing. It needs a gradual smoothing filter applied to each enhancement step. They’re also limiting their potential customers with the 4K. I for one would need to upgrade everything to capture 4K. TV, capture device, HDMI splitter, Multiviewer, HDMI selector etc are all 1080p. Mind you I capture without a computer which is only used to upload. It’s enhancements should start at 1080p where you see a noticeable difference without the need for 4K. With my setup I bet I could get it to work with the mClassic, I just can’t use it since I don’t above 1080p.

Even tho it's not necessary but I use this thing on a PC. You would have to use display port instead of the HDMI port. The main reason, you want everything on the PC to be 1080p. Using any display port it's locked on 1080p. Also doing it this way, the games don't have to be 1080p. Just leave GPU Scaling on in PC options. You can play a game in 720p full screen so it scales up to 1080p and then upscales to 4k with the device. I watch 720p movies on my PC. 720p scales up to 1080p. Then upscales to 4k with device.

the 4k gamer pro only works with a 1080p signal, so if you're upscaling anything below 1080p you gotta have an upscaler for this upscaler (which the mcable and mclassic are good for with HDMI sources) unlike my 4k TV which can upscale a wider variety of resolutions on its own and provide results comparable to an mclassic.

I don't own a Retrotink5x nor will I probably get one of these. I'm mixing my setups with OSSC, mClassic and Extron DSC HD-HD 4K Plus (also got a Framemeister but not using that much anymore). OSSC for the line-doubling, mClassic for the smoothing and further scaling to 1440p, then Extron for that last bit of scaling to 4K. Personally not too much of a fan of sharp scaling, I mean you nearly always see smoothing in visually upped emulators right (e.g. 3DS)? Only thing that I'm bummed out about is that little bit of oversaturation the mClassic produces as you mentioned.. is there anything I can do about that? Do you think 4K Gamer Pro would still be worth it? Love all your vids, cheers!

This is awesome. Shows well how anything below 720p doesn't really seem to get any improvement for this. Makes sense they are looking to upscale 1080p, bare minimum is probably an already upscaled 720p to 1080p. Im excited to see this perform, more so if you manage to get an Steam Deck@720p60 > mcable/mClassic > 4k Gamer Pro > TV. Maybe a lot of games would benefit at native 1080p since the deck could do that. Though I plan to mess around with this to try get an appealing result. Not sure if using a mcable, mClassic and 4k Gamer Pro successfully together would cause it to look worse or not though but I think the mcable / 4k Gamer Pro would probably go quite well.

I don't think the steam deck needs the Mclassic. I'm just assuming this because I use this device on a PC. All I gotta do is lock the PC on a 1080p display and leave GPU Scaling turned on. Then I could run games in 720p. 720p will scale up to 1080p because I left GPU Scaling turned on. Then from there 1080p upscales to 4k. Mclassic is not necessary, just leave GPU Scaling on.

Thank you for doing this. I see in your description the mClassic and 4KGP are not compatible, but what if you have something in between, like an HDMI downscaler, or an EDID enforcer that will tell the mClassic to output 1080p? I was doing this by accident for the past year on my 4K Samsung TV and was always frustrated why I wasn't getting my full 1440p upscale. Now the idea of keeping or downscaling the mClassic to 1080p on purpose sounds fascinating to me when used in conjunction with this device, since I actually like the looks of both. @@wobblingpixels3921 by extension, you COULD also do something like Wii for example goes into RetroTink 5X just for the HDMI conversion while staying at 480p (idk if the Wii2HDMI can do this too since I don't have one). mClassic takes your 480p HDMI signal and upscales it to 1080p (EDID limited) so it has a lot of room to work with.
