Ghent (Dutch: Gent [ɣɛnt] ⓘ; French: Gand [ɡɑ̃] ⓘ; historically known as Gaunt in English) is a city and a municipality in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is the capital and largest city of the East Flanders province, and the third largest in the country, after Brussels and Antwerp.
It is a port and university city.
The city originally started as a settlement at the confluence of the Rivers Scheldt and Leie and in the Late Middle Ages became one of the largest and richest cities of northern Europe, with some 50,000 people in 1300. After the late 16th century Ghent became a less important city, resulting in an extremely well-preserved historic centre, that now makes Ghent an important destination of tourism.
The municipality comprises the city of Ghent proper and the surrounding suburbs of Afsnee, Desteldonk, Drongen, Gentbrugge, Ledeberg, Mariakerke, Mendonk, Oostakker, Sint-Amandsberg, Sint-Denijs-Westrem, Sint-Kruis-Winkel, Wondelgem and Zwijnaarde. With 262,219 inhabitants at the beginning of 2019, Ghent is Belgium's second largest municipality by number of inhabitants. The metropolitan area, including the outer commuter zone, covers an area of 1,205 km2 (465 sq mi) and had a total population of 560,522 as of 1 January 2018, which ranks it as the fourth most populous in Belgium.[3][4] The current mayor of Ghent is Mathias De Clercq (Open Vld).

Long while since I have visited Ghent. It is a beautiful place with some really impressive medieval buildings. I think the view along the street from Sint Michielsbrug is really wonderful. I have many old colour slides from here. We have not visited since we went digital so that is at least 20years. Must take a fresh look soon. Nice walk as always.

네로의 고향, 숨겨진 진주같은 겐트군요! 10:40 루벤스! 내가 지금도 잊지 못하는 슬픈 플란더스의 개 네로가 좋아했던 루벤스의 그림, 그리고 정말 여긴 벨기에, 플란데런이군요.. 아 갑자기 생각이 났어요 내 가슴 속의 네로, 아로아, 그리고 파트라슈. 그리고 성당 안에 울려퍼지는 성가 소리에 가슴 아래서부터 올라오는 게 있어서 숨이 벅차요... 고딩 시절 합창단하며 많이 듣던 노래들도 생각나구요ㅜㅜ 성당 안을 울리는 합창 소리가 너무 좋아 한 동안 머물고 싶었습니다. 여러 교회들과 성당 건물들이 오랜 역사의 전통을 느끼게 해주지만, 조금 전에 에딘버러 본 다음이라 비교가 안 될수가 없네요.. 여긴 거기보다 작고 밝고 더 다채롭고 좀 더 자유로운 분위기 같네요 ^^ 거리 마다 음악소리, 종 소리, 사람들 소리들로 활기차고 빈 공간 없는 정말 놀이동산 느낌. 롯데월드 ㅋ 그리고 북유럽이 가까워서 그런지 지나는 사람들이 다들 기럭지가 @@ 29:42 뜨헛! 아니 이 정도의 교회당에 이런 보물 파이프오르간이라면 가운이라도 입고 연주해줘야...ㅎㅎ 겐트! 정말 이곳도 처음 들어보고(ㅋㅋ) 처음 구경하는데 너무너무 분위기 따듯하고 가보고 싶은 곳이 되었습니다~ 앨리스님 오늘도 감사해요^^😍❤💛💚
