Side Knives an advantage in a leaning crop. However, we used to have long dividers that pushed the crop away for the edge of the header, without it dropping cut ears onto the ground. No idea if you can still buy them. They used to come as standard on all NH and Claas combines.

@Rickwardful Good point! Not seen long dividers in use for many years but as a boy I remember then back in the 70s and 80s. The barley this year seems to have a 'crust' of tangled ears, whether this is due to the variety being grown or due to the UK weather I don't know 😕

@@MalcPearce Fairly certain it is the weather, especially this year. Every variety seems to have done it. We all like the Short dividers NH supply ,compared to the Adjustable ones that were standard, but had to be taken off every time we put the header on its trailer. But it was only when using the Adjustable dividers that you could attach the long one (ones if you fitted them to both sides). You used to have a fantastic NH dealer near you called M Bloomfield and Sons and they would have got every type of divider that NH made in stock. I have a great firm called Cotswold Combines (a smaller version of Bloomfields) near me and they managed to find me an old set. I’d forgotten just how good they were, but what a pain every time we move down the road!
