From an architectural point of view this building is impressive and hase some stunning elements, especially the usage of modern materials and plants for the hand washing place and tori, but from a japanese cultural perspective this is not a place tourists would associate with Japan at all and are likely to visit. I think Japans approach to adopt European or American architecture without being grown into this kind of architecture will not work to help tourists to fully emerge in Japanese culture. (I say this just from my point of view as a Japanology graduate with two longer visits in this beautiful country. Maybe other tourists have another view on this.) Let's discuss.
