Samet Island or Koh Samed Island is also known as the ''Pearl of the East''. The Island is located in 'Rayong Province' 190km from Bangkok and 50km from Pattaya. It's a 2.5-hour journey (from Bangkok) to Ao Prao Pier and a 12-minute speedboat trip to the island.
A large part of the island of Koh Samet is part of the Khao Laem Ya National Park. Admission is currently 200 THB and for children 100 THB. The island's "rainy season" extends only from May to July. Koh Samet is known as a popular weekend getaway for Thais and foreigners living in Bangkok.
