Ryanair 737-800 aborted landing at Bristol Airport during the worst of Storm Barra! The weather today was INTENSE and the crew arriving on this Ryanair from Budapest unfortunately arrived just as the winds were swinging round from SE to SW, swirling and gusting, causing them some challenges on the final approach, hence the go around. Thanks for watching, consider leaving a like before you go, it really helps and makes standing out in the wind and rain and getting soaked through to the bone worth it! 😆👍

That looked like a very high speed landing

I think the wind must have swung round on final, giving them a much higher groundspeed suddenly. Thanks for watching! 😄

They need to add a wind additive in their VREF calculated approach speed (Which is standard + 5 knots to a maximum of +20 knots. This is to compensate any change in wind speed and direction which is prevalent in gusty conditions due to weather or terrain, and to prevent a sudden and unexpected loss of airspeed whilst configured . The VREF approach speed is also higher the higher the gross weight of the aircraft, and any tail wind component will further increase the ground speed (which is 15 knots tailwind set by the manufacturer and probably further limited by the operator or what is permitted in the approach).

Easiest place to find one is online, just search for airband radio 😄 Thanks for watching! 👌
