📜 object history:
The reminder of the Piast period in Woźniki are the remains of the stronghold/castle. It was probably built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries (after the first location of the city), but it is possible that it was much younger and was erected only in the mid-14th century. The building was mentioned for the first time as a 'castle or stronghold' ('castrum sive fortalitium') only in a document of prince Władysław II of Opole from 1386. This document was issued by the prince in Woźniki, which indirectly indicates that he was a guest in the stronghold, probably the most impressive facility in the city. This document indicates that it was a small object, and moreover, it was granted by the duke together with the mayor's office. The vogt's stronghold functioned until the mid-15th century, when one of the Hussite expeditions completely devastated the town. The building was also completely destroyed and degraded: when in 1497 the mayor of Woźniki donated the area of the former stronghold to the local parish church, the document mentions only meadows and fields. Only barely legible fragments of the ramparts and the outline of the moats have survived to this day.
