In today's Japan Walking Tour video, we will take a relaxing walk and complete virtual tour of Nagoya Castle in 2020.
Nagoya Castle is a Japanese castle located in Nagoya, central Japan. During the Edo period, Nagoya Castle was the heart of one of the most important castle towns in Japan.
It was built in 1612 with the purpose of being used as the residence of Tokugawa Yoshinao - son of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Although it was destroyed by war, it was later rebuilt in 1959. This is a castle consisting of 5 floors of large and small towers built in harmony, especially, the blue roof and the Shachihoko fish statue. The yellow color on the roof is very famous and is considered a symbol of Nagoya.
In the city, there is a restaurant where visitors can enjoy famous Nagoya's delicacies such as Misokatsu, Yakishimen, Ebifurai (fried shrimp), and Miso-oden. In addition, there are Ninomaru Garden, Ninomaru Chatei, Ninomaru-higashi Garden around the castle, which are gardens with rocky and sandy rock, creating a beautiful mountain and river landscape.

Very Cool!!! Thank you for making this video. It brings back so many memories of my first time visiting Japan in July 2019. The Pop-Over restaurant was pretty good, I went there twice. Hopefully you can make another video by walking around the castle.

Thank you so much for making this video, I always wanted to go there. I was so worried you would get in trouble because of the no camera policy. Can't wait to go when the tower opens!

The camera I use is very small and has no plash light so it's not banned. I just entered the tower exactly 4 years ago but it was really beautiful, hope I can visit again. I'm glad you liked it!

Sorry to say this, but Japanese castles and historical buildings, with a few exceptions, e.g. some of the juku 宿 along the old Edo roads 旧街道 (Nakasendo, Tokaido) are rather boring. You never get any idea of what it was like to live there. I suppose we're supposed to watch old samurai dramas for that...
