Wonderful video of this train line. Thank you. For anyone with any information about this, I was wondering about the rivers the this train line passes over and alongside, what is the purpose of all of those concrete type blocks and structures?

Because this line was destroyed due to river flood in 1995 and stopped for two years. 23:33 www.hrr.mlit.go.jp/takada/flood711/img/top/photo7.jpg

Can you understand with a word "a ground avarange"? A stiff or cliffs often have a huge rocks goes down to the ground when strong typhoon or heavy rain comes. To protect these disasters, blocks of concrete or strong iron anchors are used after covered with a firm concrete.
Sorry to see this part of the line will soon be history. With the many speed restrictions and the long travel times I can understand the trains are not so attractive for the people living there.
