Hello everyone! "Today, from Valparadís Park, we are going to take a walk together and I'm going to show you some of the modernist buildings of Terrassa! This city was also known as 'the city of smoke' in 1904, thanks to Pere Antoni Ventalló, for being a great industrial power in the textile sector in the early twentieth century.
The church of San Pedro is part of the monumental complex of the Seu d'Ègara, (so called because in ancient times Egara was the name of the current Terrassa. It was built a long time ago, around the 6th century, so imagine all that it has seen happen. The beauty of this church is that it mixes a lot of architectural styles, from Romanesque to Gothic.
One of the things you can't miss if you visit the church of San Pedro is its interior, which is full of ancient mural paintings that transport you to another era. In addition, the church is surrounded by a super quiet and green environment, perfect for a relaxing walk.
It's like taking a trip back in time without leaving the city, I hope you like it as much as I do!
The sculpture of the hippos created in 1987 brings a fun and surprising touch to the natural environment of the park.
The 12th century Carthusian castle became a Carthusian monastery between the 14th and 15th centuries and is one of the oldest structures in the city. Originally, it was a defensive fortress, but in the 14th century it was transformed into a monastery for the Carthusian monks, who led a life of silence, prayer and isolation.
The building is a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic elements, much like the church of San Pedro. It is also surrounded by the beautiful Vallparadís Park.
Currently, the castle houses a part of the Museum of Terrassa, where the history and evolution of the city from prehistoric to modern times is shown. The entrance fee is only 3 euros, but if you are from Terrassa, you won't have to pay anything!
The Independence Market is the ideal place for food lovers. Inaugurated in 1908, it is a traditional market where you can find everything: fruits, vegetables, meats, fish and more. The best thing is that it is in a spectacular building with a modernist architecture that you will love. It's a great place to stroll around, buy fresh produce and enjoy the local atmosphere.
The National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia is located in a former modernist textile factory, designed by architect Lluis Muncunil in the early 20th century.
In this museum you can explore the evolution of science and technology in Catalonia.
Its exhibits cover topics such as energy, transportation, textiles and computers, among others.
One of the most important attractions is the impressive energy room, where you can see large industrial machines in operation.
It is an ideal place to visit with the family and learn in an interactive way.
I leave you the link to my video of the modernist Terrassa if you want to see it inside.
The Masia Freixa also designed by Lluis Muncunil like the national museum of science and technology, was a textile factory before becoming a residence.
Highlights in its design inspired by the work of Gaudí, with curved lines, parabolic arches and a white tiled roof.
This building is surrounded by the park of San Jordi, offering a natural and peaceful environment.
This farmhouse is a perfect example of the fusion between modernist architecture and the natural environment, being a photogenic place to visit in Terrassa.
And so we arrive at the house museum Alegre de Sagrera, an elegant modernist residence built in the nineteenth century, which was renovated in 1911.
The house belonged to the industrial Sagrera family and shows a combination of modernist and neoclassical style.
Inside you can see the original furniture of the time, stained glass windows, mosaics and decorated ceilings. This house offers a unique insight into the bourgeois life of the early twentieth century in Catalonia.
The pieces on display in the Salvans room form an impressive collection of oriental art and statues, donated to Terrassa by Montserrat Corbera, widow of Josep Salvans. The collection includes 400 pieces of various materials, cults and functionalities, from China, Japan and Southeast Asia.
Also this house has the giant heads in the Casa Alegre de Sagrera that are part of a Catalan cultural tradition known as (giants and big heads). These characters are used in celebrations and parades, especially during major festivals in the towns and cities of Catalonia.
Thank you for watching the video to the end👌
