You can. Play up till you get the fishing rod and tier 2 deadeye. Turn the hud off and just roam. Instead of running or sprinting, unless it's necessary, just walk and same with the horse. Play more immersive, only hunt/fish when you need food and eat it all whilst at camp. Only loot certain things (maybe don't loot bodies) only stick to certain items like cigars or cigarettes or brandy or rum. Spend time at the bar getting too drunk and starting a bar fight or playing poker. Get arrested and pay your fines. Bathe regularly. Spend money at stores on things you need instead of always crafting. Apply your own morals to the way you play. You could have played this game 10x over and if that's the case then completely disregard my comment 😄but if not then maybe take it into consideration. I'm on my very first playthrough and have been roaming the land since I got the fishing pole and have no interest in the story right now.
