I just picked up a 2004 ford explorer eddie bauer edition with only 131 miles for 5557. It was a southern vehicle. Solid under carriage and the body great all the way around.

Get the V8, not the V6. These trucks are old now and V6 will have issues by now if it’s not low mileage , or will have issues sometime after you drive it.

I already have a good Ford Explorer but I geek out on Ford Explorer videos all night long hoping to pick up a hack or two. This is a great example of a good Ford Explorer. The fact that you spend a lot of time showing every little scratch and nick shows that the paint is in decent shape and has for the most part escaped any real hard to repair imperfections. Kind of boring to watch though. I hope to raise the level of my Explorer to this Explorer's level. Thanks for the share. I did see some brown staining on the carpet bellow the middle passenger seat below the seat with the crack in the leather that you failed to point out, but the rest of the interior is immaculate.

@@LandonMartien I'm not reliable, so I can't really say. I did have trouble with the tranny; however, it was fixable, but stupid me, ran it anyway and snapped the bands, All me! I did enjoy driving the vehicle, while I had it, very comfortable and classy ride for how much they usually go for. I would say get one. I'm just a dumb ass. I myself felt that I could live with the gas mileage, not great or good, but livable. Just know it has better street manners then it does off Road capabilities. Oh yeah also one has to pump Tranny fluid up into the tranny from under the Vehicle, no dipstick. So, since I am a dumb ass and I said to get one then it would be logical to do the opposite, so in defense of the Ford Explorer all I can say is that I did feel kind of uptown driving it around and I will miss it and all of its features.

​​@@LandonMartien I got 2 , 02 V8 250k miles it's my daily , transfer case went at 230k ( I tend to drive it like my mustang bc of the V8 :) my 08 v6 283k miles I gave to my son , tran went at 220k miles but that was my own fault I knew I pushed it to much that day, common issue front wheel bearing usually left. Daily maintenance and don't beat on them too much and they are great , also have a 2017 XLT no way in hell will it last as long as my 02 purchased that in 04

I have had the worst luck with used cars for awhile. So I'd rather have the occasional spark plug headed for the moon than buy the V6 with a rear timing chain that breaks because the former owners decided oil maintenance was optional. Front bicycle chain is easier than rear. And I'd pick the Explorer over the Mercury because AWD wheel bearing maintenance is expensive but if you prefer AWD in domestic under engineered then when the wheel bearings give out I'd recommend Motorcraft, Schaeffler or Timken bearings. Because how many times do you want to do it? I actually prefer the looks of the GMC Envoy but they float more with less steering feel and feel more disconnected through curves and corners than I like. Probably about the same average repair rate. Someone got 320,000 out of the 4.2. Someone got 135,000. Someone got 340,000 out of the 4l60e. Someone got 61,000. You just never know until you get it. If money were no option I'd get the Toyota whatever in about the same size and medium green paint. Or orange paint. Definitely not yellow. The 8 gets the same mileage as the 6. I've heard some get better. All depends on how they're driven and how far. I don't drive like I'm 16. The next adult does and swears there's no way the 8 gets as good as the 6.

I hate it when people take a half hour to show every little Nick and scrape on a vehicle. Just show a few and say it's indicative of the scratches all around the vehicle especially a 4x4 that will most likely have nicks and scrapes, We'll get it. I promise. Just get to the features of the vehicle and the test drive Please. No I don't think I could do better.
