About Taiwan Open of Surfing
Jinzun was selected as a "five-star" surfing competition site by Asian Surfing Championship (ASC) in 2011. It was also the first place ever in Taiwan to host an international surfing competition. In 2012, the event was upgraded to ASC’s highest-rated“seven-star" event (ultimate event), which was also the highest-level international surfing competition Taiwan has hosted. In 2013, the event was upgraded again. Working with Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), the competition has scaled up and became more professional and internationally known. After that, the collaboration with ASP continued, and the only points-based competition in Taiwan was held in 2014. In 2015, ASP changed its name to World Surf League (WSL) and held the only points-based competition in Taiwan (QS1500) in Jinzun. Since then, the collaboration with WSL continued. In 2017, Jinzun was selected as the venue for the annual men's/women's longboard championship finals by WSL. In 2018 and 2019, two world championships were held here: the World Longboard Championship and the World Junior Surf Championship. It was the first time since WSL’s founding that two world champions were made at the same venue.
