TFU is the newest airport of Chengdu which is FAR AWAY from downtown and all the international flights all depart and land here. AND Terminal 1 has just undergone renovation so there are not many shops inside yet. But you can use144 transit visa to stay at the GTC center inside the airport, which has some worldwide chainstores.

Tianfu Terminal 1 has around 60 gates but there’s only 46 flights per day, that’s why there’s barely anything or anyone in the terminal. T2 (domestic) is a lot busier

I suggest to book a hotel nearby the airport. Book it in advance because in my experience, wifi didnt work in the airport.
