4K VS 1080 Side by Side Comparison Test (Sony ZVE10 + Sony 18-105 f4)

What's the difference between 4k and 1080? Is shooting in 4K better than 1080? 4K VS 1080 side by side comparison? In this video, I did a real life test to see the video quality of 4K and 1080 in different lighting condition. The video was shot on Sony ZVE10 + Sony 18-105 f4.

I have the ZV E10 and if you shoot in 100 mbs 120 fps it will be sharper in 1080p and you can still put it into your editing program and set it to 24 , 30 and 60 fps and it will look great.

Gracias por la comparación, ultimamente he notado con poca nitidez el video 1080 de la zve10 y lo digo comparando con una sony a6300, sabes algo sobre el tema ? la camara en 4k es maravillosa pero en 1080 siento que es menos nítida que sus hermanas, espero me puedas ayudar tengo algunos footage en drive por si gusta verlos. Hi thanks for your comment. I'm not sure about a6300, but in my experience, when the lighting is not good, the difference between 4k and 1080 will be more obvious. And make sure you are using optical zoom rather than digital zoom, this influence the quality as well.

I think it depends on what screen you play back on.I have seen realy nice 1080 on 1080 p monitors.4K looks good on 4K monitors and scaled down on full HD monitors.

if you shoot in 1080, you won't experience any rolling shutter, which is a big point. But the detail 4k is really nice. What a struggle!

For me, the biggest struggle is to choose between slower fps and 4k details. I wish ZVE10 could have 4k 60fps.

А вы пробовали panasonic g80? мне кажется что детализация у него гораздо лучше при 1080p чем у sony прям очень мыльно получается при 50mbps в то время как у меня на панасонике 24mbps и более резкая картинка @@ConstantineSPhotography

Hi Sam, congrats on the new camera! I would like to recommend Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 to you, but since you already have the kit lens, the focal length would largely overlap, so I think Sony 18-105mm F4 will suit you better (this lens is very versatile, it can cover most situations), unless a large aperture is very important to you. And if you want a prime lens, Sigma 30mm F1.4 will be a good choice. I think Sigma 30mm would be more all-around, but of course 16mm is also a good choice and can show more environment.

16mm is wider, so suitable for architecture and landscape, but if you use it to shoot portrait, the background blur won't be too obvious, and also because it's wider, composition will be more challenging. 30 mm will give you a more natural focal length (closer to what you see with your eyes; equals to 50mm in full frame). Both are great lenses, it depends on what you want to shoot. If you want a more blurry background, go with 30, and if you want to show more environment or if you're shooting indoors with smaller space, go with 16mm.

I switched my a6400 for a zve10. But in my experience the 4k on the a6400 is more sharp than the zve10. Also it seems it has beter dynamic range than the zve10

I always shoot 1080 unless someone specifically asks for 4K. And in that case, they have to give me some extra hard drives. ;)

Haha I'm the opposite. I try to always shoot in 4K (unless I need a higher frame rate), even though I know I probably won't see the difference, I still don't want to risk it because I had the experience of shooting 1080p in the late afternoon when it was a little dark, and the difference was very obvious.

I can't understand why 1080p on all cameras look so ugly. PS: I'm wacthing the video in a 1080p monitor and I can easily see the huge difference between the 1080p and 4K recordings.
