Alachua resident here. Thanks for making this video of our special town. A lot of the buildings you passed have rich history and you can find more about them on the city of Alachua website. I recently discovered there was an old movie theater from 1960. The ruins are still there. I have passed it my entire life and didnt know what that was!!

We are also home to the San Felasco Hammock State Park, and the Sid Martin Incubator for Bioscience which has been recognized among the best in the world multiple times. Our 4th of July Fireworks are attended by thousands of folks and we consider it the best small town fireworks display in America.

Your comment about fireworks triggered me a bit :( My Mom, who passed a couple years ago, used to say Alachua had better fireworks than Disney!! I miss her and home.

I went to UF so during my time in Gainesville I’d go and explore the small towns in surrounding areas. I like alachua and high springs. We’d pass them on the way to the itchetucknee. Old Florida is slowly dying but I love the old Florida charm that can still be found in the north central part of the state and some of the rural coastal towns. Florida is so beautiful and all the people moving here from other states rly dilute the culture, charm, and cohesion of the commmunities

Love this! The walking tours are great -- I don't live too far away from Alachua and I can't say that I've ever walked it! It is a nice little town, though. I love that Florida has little towns like these.

Grew up there in the 80's and 90's. I had two different jobs on that street as a teen. It gets interesting when the Krishna's are out parading on main street, I don't know if they still do that.

Alachua (1824): A Muskogee or Timucua word for sinkhole. Historians say it might have referred to a large one near Gainesville.

Alachua has CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Supermarket Hitchcock, Lowes Hardware, Banks, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, Subway Sandwiches, Pizza, Mexican, Cuban, Zagby's, Hotels. But no dentist😢

I think the inflated population comes from the proximity to Gainesville
