Just before you get to the Pitt Shop there used to be the Original Hotdog Shop. Lots of history there. Best hotdogs and cheese steaks in the city. Across the street use to be the Decade. Big names played there.

Thank you for taking me on a trip down memory lane in one of my favorite neighborhoods in my favorite city in the USA! Thank you for this beautifully executed video where I almost felt like I was there! I lived in this wonderful city from 1990 to 1993 and then from 1995 to 1998 when I left it permanently. I am glad to see that there are some new additions to exciting Forbes Avenue and I can't believe that good old RiteAid and good old Subway across the street are both still there!!!!! No matter where I have lived in the USA, nowhere seems to make me forget this charming and cozy city and I think that I will eventually return to live there indefinitely. Between exciting Oakland, lively Squirrel Hill, and elegant Shadyside, I can live in MY beloved Pittsburgh FOREVER! In the second comment below, the commentator has used an adjective which I myself have used countless times to describe this lovable city: UNDERRATED!

I used to roam this area when I was a kid living in the USA 1984-1985. Lived in Atwood st and went to Frick then Schenley high school. Walked to school in winter, played baseball under Forbes Quad, stay in computer room in CMU (AT&T6300 !). I then went back to my home country and now live in Australia. Thank you for your post.

I went to Pitt my freshman and sophomore year. Watching your video was like walking into a past life. Where is the O? The Original? On the corner before you hit campus? Sooo much has changed in 30 years but it is still a beautiful campus...the architecture is stunning. THANK you for taking me back:+) God bless~

The O or The Original is the boarded up building at the 4:42 mark of the video.
@MMC-jp1gl2 жыл бұрын
@@HereWeGoSteelers I saw that it was boarded up but hoped that wasn't the case. I haven't been to the area in awhile. What happened to it? Fire? Are they planning on rebuilding? God bless~

just kind of expected more people to be walking around. I guess its off season for the college. Is it early morning or late afternoon? I wanted to see what Pittsburgh people looked like. Wanted to see more shops. I guess I am used to bigger cities. Though, smaller cities are more quiet, less crowded.

So much has changed since I lived there in the early 90s. The Original Hotdog Shop is gone! 😢Bummer... That was a great place for a kid on a shoestring budget.

Oakland is a lot more slicked up and gentrified since I went to Pitt for grad school early 80'icture Show plated every night with Pink Flamingos. Is the Original Hot Dog Shop (yum) boarded up on the corner of Forbes and S. Bouquet? Where are all the cool little jazz clubs? Also, the King's Court Theatre where Rocky Horror Picture Show played every night. Does not look like a college campus anymore, old Pittsburgh was a lot more fun.

Thanks for sharing some insights into the "old Pittsburgh" We've only been twice.

Yes, that was the old O. Unfortunately it closed a few years ago. It's now a taco place. Signed, A current Pitt student.

nice walk. but man, not a lot of people walking. probably because the Metro of trains and buses is limited and not like New York city. with the new NCAA rules, the football team of Pitt will be sorley diminished. Pitt can't afford to pay their players like Southern Cal or Alabama can , nor Ohio State. But the town still has some good conventions like STeel City Con. It also has good sports teams.....except for the Pirates. But I like some of the shopps and architecture of Forbes Avenue. I will have to visit Pittsburgh.
