For those who don't know how to differentiate between the first and second generations. Basically the diference is that the first generation can't do complex melodies and is more slowly compared to the second generation. 0:16 First Generation 8:17 First Generation too 14:22 Second Generation (the last activated exemplary and unfortunately it is already at the end of its life, apparently) In my opinion, strangely, the first generations seems to be like more resistant than the second generation. Addition: The yamaha on the thumb also is second generation
It’s basically a carter WWll air-raid siren specifically tuned to play notes. Each time a note is played, shutters/dampers open and close to produce the note. It’s quite simple. Sadly many of these sirens have Ben decommissioned due to lack of parts from Yamaha since they discontinued the making of Yamaha music sirens in 1998. There are only 3 active Yamaha music sirens to still exist in Japan. Any other existing siren is either being repaired, or decommissioned and abandoned. The Yamaha music sirens are dying. Since there’s a lack of parts, these sirens are going to run until they die since they can’t be repaired. Let’s hope they last a long time.

I’ve always found the second generation units to sound really beautiful. Wishing I had the funds, time and resources to try to make my own variation of these sirens as the concept deserves to be preserved in whatever way possible.

The windup/winddown of these things is friggin incredible
Although TOKIWA music siren still works, it's electromagnets need to be oiled so it can play properly like the recording of it going off in 1975. Great job on putting this massive video together!!

These are some of the most beautiful sounding sirens i have ever heard, i really hope these sirens can last a little while longer to play us one final song before they die out. but there truly some very beautiful yet scary instruments of war.
I like the modern siren at the end designed to replicate the sound of the real music siren. Clearly there's still a demand for these.

I'm surprised the people didn't complain about that either. I know the actual music siren broke down, but its performances were decreased following complaints about it being "annoying" or "disruptive".
@Woogoo3362 ай бұрын
@@TRKaliFoxxo How often are they played? This type of siren would be far preferable to the usual siren tests that others use.
@TRKaliFoxxo2 ай бұрын
@@Woogoo336 They're normally sounded on a daily schedule. Morning, noon, and evening. Theoretically the amount of times they can be sounded is limitless but this wears down the machine significantly. And it ultimately depends on how the people take to it. In Kishiwada City's case, they weren't fond of its "disruptive and annoying" performances. In the end though the poor thing, like many others, broke down and has been left to rot.

Wasn't Yamaha the same company that made the motorcycles? I never knew that they made the musical siren

22:57 Okay this is just disgraceful! They put a mimic music siren that plays low quality recordings right next to the original! Nothing beats the original music siren's quality! It's like they got a cheap $20 microphone and played the original one to record it's chimes (Or majestic howls of heavenly harmony) and play it over a cheap megaphone! And who would wanna hear 2 phone beeps after a music siren is done playing it's song! Most of the other music sirens work just fine! Why can't they just fix the original one and use the mimic one for something else? Sorry if I over exaggerated a bit.. I guess I just had a rough day..

As of mid-June, it was taken offline due to a malfunction according to the City of Yawatahama’s official website. It’s very possible it may have something to do with that, and they have stated that they’re working to get it back online as soon as possible.
