@@bigbearkat2010I don't believe in destiny or anything like that but it's kind of interesting to me what has happened in the recent history of North American professional sports regarding these kinds of team name changes. Eskimos change to Elks: team gets worse Indians change to Guardians: mediocre team before and after Redskins eventually change to Commanders: nearly won a playoff game as a nameless team, but have been a profoundly broken franchise at least since Snyder took over Blackhawks: no name change, one of the most successful NHL franchises in the 21st century Chiefs: no name change (yet, though the SJWNPCs are trying to force it despite the name not being directly connected to Native Americans), one of the most successful NFL teams in the last decade Braves: no name change (probably the most surprising because of the way Atlanta is), recently won World Series and are at the time of writing the best team in MLB My best explanation is that these teams, if they're doing poorly, need to find something to stay relevant and so they try to appease their constituents with meaningless pandering. If they're doing well, they don't bother changing their name because they're already relevant and most likely will continue to be. Never mind that by and large, not only were these teams not named with a derogatory intent (if intent does, in fact, matter), but by and large, modern indigenous peoples don't seem to care whether the name is changed or retained-and in the cases of the Blackhawks and the Florida State Seminoles, the tribes in question have given their permission to use the names.

To have a rookie qb that’s so fucking raw and needs so much help and development goes to a team that’s terrible all around him and not even keep a mentor qb like RG3 for Kizer is a recipe for disaster, he should of never been a brown and not keeping a veteran qb for Kizer was a terrible idea, that whole front office had no idea what they were doing
@fortynights1513 Жыл бұрын
@@ILLUSI_O_N-V1Exactly. Quarterbacks need time to develop, and having a veteran on your roster helps. I had no idea that Kizer’s college coach thought he wasn’t ready. Kizer didn’t play great don’t get me wrong, but he was totally set up to fail. It’s just like what happened with Tim Couch at the start of the expansion years, only arguably worse because at least Couch’s coach would’ve probably told you he was ready for the pros.

As painful as it all was, it was what needed to be done to get out of the 4-5 wins a season rut we were in for most of the seasons before that. There were too many “starters” that were overpaid and weren’t really going to get us anywhere. After going 4-44 from 15’-17’ the team has gone 40-42-1 in the 5 seasons since so though things haven’t been as good as they should be the team overall has improved to a near .500 team in the years since…
@fuktrumpanzeeskum10 ай бұрын
Being a .500 team consistently will get you stuck in a rut though as well. Always performing just good enough to miss out on top draft picks. Say what you want about "tanking" but baseball (a sport that is the hardest to draft successfully in) has proven that if done correctly, it works.

Long story short Hue Jackson got screwed. But that's the risk you take coaching the Browns. I'm glad you covered the analytics part because Paul DePodesta was the one really screwing the team over with that
@mr.doctorcaptain1124 Жыл бұрын
Analytics should have a place in football, but not nearly as big as a place as in non combat sports. Analytics haven’t caught up to give guys ratings based on their ability to keep playing through pain or injuries, and it cannot take into account an athletes ability to play through physical and mental adversity, which is far higher in football than any other team sport.
@MarkZickefoose Жыл бұрын
Hue was the only one that screwed Hue. Either because he took the job completely ignorant that they were rebuilding, or because he took the job knowing there was a major rebuild and managed a tank far beyond what Haslam and company were bracing for in the first place. I'll go a step further and say that he took the job in part BECAUSE he got to be part of a rebuild, as "the football guy" in the FO - which Sashi Brown was NOT, not even a little. That's why we had to "trust Hue" about Deshone Kizer, after all. But he threw the rebuild so far off the rails so hard they went out and got Dorsey to right the ship - hell, they had to trade Carlos Hyde JUST to force Hue to put Nick Chubb on the field, when Chubb was clearly the better back.
Also hue is an idiot and horrible head coach, there’s that.

@1966oldsguy Жыл бұрын
As a KC fan there’s a lot of connection between these two franchises recently. For instance John Dorsey played a roll in building both franchises from rock bottom. Browns passed on Mahomes and instead used chiefs camp cast off Kevin Hogan. Chiefs picked up Schwartz and ogbah and won a SB. In some alternate universe the browns hire Andy Reid in 2013 instead of Chudznsky, select mahomes and are coming off their second superbowl win. Wild! Much respect and best of luck this season
@kinglyone7172 Жыл бұрын
Browns DID NOT pass on Mahommes (yes, the benefit of hindsight, Mahommes should have been picked 1, but few Browns fans aren't happy with Myles Garrett). I do believe they thought they could get him at a lower pick, but remember, the Browns traded down AFTER he was picked by KC (Mahommes was picked at 10, but the Browns had the 12th where they actually did pass on Watson then traded down againn). I think Hue wanted him over Watson or at least convinced that they could get another pick and still get a qb. Depodesta (the real Browns GM) is so into draft picks he'll get them, no problem, but won't use them. Regarding Reid, well, the Browns GM...err...Depodesta...err...the organization, doesn't like to bring in older vets. They want young guys they can mold and Reid doesn't fit that bill. Coaches that want to come in do things their way don't fit this team. Now, in all fairness, that's why Holmgren didn't work out.

I'll admit Huge had things running smoothly until Fujita injured Jason Campbell, but then he made an insane trade for Carson Palmer because Al wasn't around to veto it, and after missing the playoffs he started saying he was gonna be co-GM. Great analysis. As a Browns fan, I can also say that Hue just seemed to have a weird sort of ego. He was very condescending towards local reporters at press conferences, referred to Terry Francona as "Coach Francola" to congratulate Terry on making it to the 2016 World Series, and had a not-so-positive meeting with the coaching staff on Hard Knocks, where he seemed to rub people the wrong way. Yes, we can blame Haslam and the front office until the cows come home, and, sure, maybe things would have been different if he had more talent. But ultimately, he just seemed like an incompetent coach.
