4Runner Radio Install

Installing a new radio in a 2000 Toyota 4Runner. It should have gone a lot smoother than it did.

LOL, thanks for watching. What should have been a 30 minute process, took us close to 5-6 hours and it was HOT! We were both sooo relieved when it finally worked!

I just did one on a 1998 4Runner ! The company I use offers instructions along with the installation kit Free! Yes you have to take the amp out but my radio was the same size practically because I had a CD player also! Mine was a Pioneer! and I love it!

LOL. That was the factory amplifier you need to remove and no disconnecting the orange plug will not explode the air bags.

Hi agapios, thanks for watching. This is an example of what happens when you ask your mom to help. What should have been a very straightforward 30 min job, ended up taking about 5 hours because we didn't know it HAD a factory amp! LOL Lesson learned.

@@slyreader This is how I learn also by doing it. Have you figured out why there are 2 antena plugs? I'm going to be doing mine next and was trying to figure out if they are separate AM and FM antenas or something else.

Hey! I see you’re still replying to comments? I bought (seemingly) the same aftermarket radio and I’m having trouble splicing the cables. Do you happen to have a link or a diagram you can send me of the color coordination for the wiring on the 4Runner?

There’s an adapter you can get at any auto parts store. Once you take the amp out (that’s way behind the radio itself) it plug and play. No wiring needed. I’ll try to find the one we used and add it to the video. Thanks for watching!

Actually you don't have to remove & bypass the amp. There is a specific harness designed for the JBL system which has the OEM amp. It uses the it has RCA jacks spliced into the harness

LOL, thanks, that would've been good to know. You should make a video on it. At the time, we couldn't find ANYTHING on how to switch radios.

@@slyreader I get that. I'm a Toyota MDT so I have researched a lot of course. METRA makes the specific harness to Keep the OEM amp in the JBL systems like I have.
