This is exciting! Is it possible to do with a newer VW bug? I had a VW bus years ago, and I so miss it. Now I have a 2008 VW Bu,g and I want to go traveling and can't afford the hotels. Could I make my bug into an occasional camper? Thanks.

Yes you can! This old is one of the smallest cars ever, so I believe a new Bug would give you even more room! Have fun my friend!
