The wife and I spent Friday and Saturday riding the RT ltd in southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas. We were lost most of the time. Loved it. Our new trailer made the trip from Nebraska without any problems.

Hope you guys had a wonderful 4th of July. Given the fact you do not have your phones or watch with you and there is no radio head unit with GPS on the bike, you should have titled the video “A 1990 ride on July 4th 2020” lol. Man I miss those days going out for a drive (didn’t ride yet), just roaming listening to the radio and clearing the old head. No one could reach you and before cell phones etc, no one had the expectation of being able to reach you whenever they felt the need. I do miss those days sometimes. Shawn I gotta day, I love love love 99% of Harleys, and while I am more of a SGS/RGS type of guy (I’ve had both, a 16 RGS and now the 19 SGS) I love that RK and the view for us when you’re riding is superb without a fairing in the way. You’ve convinced me I’d totally rock a RK, with a big bore kit, exhaust, tune, and Carlini apes hahahaha (there’s just some things we like on our bikes right). Another beautiful part of being a Harley guy, making them your own with the plethora of parts and options you can buy. I know I’ve said that before but it is so true. You are correct, btw, the Harleys do live on (when upkeep is done of course) like no other.

I wonder how it will be trying to keep what will be old vehicles going in 20-30 years. I can keep a pre 1990 car or truck going a long time. Once computers get involved, it becomes more difficult. Some cars today have many dozens of computers. How long does HD support their models? BMW is pretty good, the big 4, not so much.

Harley has the best OE & aftermarket support of just about any motor vehicle ever produced... All dealers will be in that 10 year range, it's been this way for quite some time now. Folks that can't keep up with their own equipment will always be forced to stay with newer. There are also plenty of small shops than can keep you going with older stuff as well... As of 2017, any vehicle sold in the US has to be ODB2 compliant so that the consumer can connect to their own vehicle. The equipment can be quite spendy, but no longer dealer only computer access. Computers on autos and bikes are into their 4th decade of normal use, so there's nothing new here, just more complex as we all advance. Techs and customers are getting smarter....life and vehicles simply move forward in complexity. The old stuff is for those of us who love to tinker. Right or wrong, that's how it goes... @@TheSmoaksVlogs From what I understand, FCA went to a trusted network module on their cars. This effectively blocked consumer access. That I until someone figured a work around. Still, manufacturers want to lock things down. My question is, who owns it? Part of it EPA, part of it is a revenue stream. Software companies have moved to a subscription model. I can see that with cars on more than just Sirius XM. I work with tech most days and I have to wonder how the electronics will hold up. The lifespan seems to be shortening a bit. I have a 30 year old Mac at work that still works, but nothing much in between that and 2006 really and that stuff is dying off. Apple cuts off support as well and then it's about finding used parts if you're really interested in keeping it going. In my case, I work in a university and PI's will get a grant for research, but the tech and then there's no money to ever upgrade it and with stuff like that I do my best, but I've started to say, so sad, too bad. After a while, it ain't worth it. I guess at some point, just have spares with critical stuff. Thanks for replying.
