Ep 2 of the Budget Lux Build is going to the next level! We're going to start looking at more serious mods to get this beast further off-road, and make it more bush proof. We are filming in a couple of weeks time - tell us what mods you think we should do to it and we'll throw the best ideas on it next episode!

Reduction gears will do wonders for the pony. BRAKES. Something almost everyone who lifts a lux (and many other vehicles) forgets to do, Adjust the load proportioning valve rod on the rear diff. Lengthening the rod opens the valve allowing more pressure to the breaks. Lifting the vehicle closes the valve and is why many luxes fail the rego break tests.

honestly so happy youse got one of the best budget 4wds around and to be doing a build up serious on it is even better, being a massive hilux fan and jocko fan is also a bonus, id like to see the pony raptored and have 2' body lift thrown under her with a roof tray fitted up with terralume loghts, a new exhaust wouldnt go astray either, with the towbar issue should put on a custom rear bar with a swing away tyre carrier also, hope this gives you a few good ideas but so far loving the build up, keep up the good work!

This is a great series. I loved this show for so long but it was just eye candy for me as I have a family and just a small amount of allowance to buy a truck and fit it out for overlanding. My idea was a budget gen 2 4runner and do what I can over the years. After seeing your lux build I am chewing at the bit and early next year is my chance to buy and get started. It's been great to see what mods I can get the most out of and get me to those rare spots I've been missing out on. Been dreaming through covid and am ready to get back outdoors and traveling again! Great series Jocko! Keep up the great work brother. Best Regards from Texas!

Hi Jocko loving the Pony lux project. I think good next mods would be rock sliders to reduce panel damage and instead of changing diff gears, put low ratio transfer case gears in. This will retain road performance/noise/revs (such as it is on these!) and give a huge improvement in rock crawling. Oh yeah- and guard flares be good too! Lol

If you could get there on your 29"s or whatever they were, and Graham could hang with an IFS rig on 33s, I figure you can climb just about anything reasonable, and some stuff that isn't with a 'Lux twin locked on 33s. This build is perfect. Exactly how I like to build up a rig, and proof that you don't need all of the kit to have a more than capable rig.
@hunterbrock23474 жыл бұрын
I'm glad this little lux is getting more love. The tires were much needed. I anticipate seeing ring and pinion work the next time but I've been really curious for my owner budget 4wd building if a twin t case setup would maybe do more for less of the whole budget.

Loved the video, don’t know if it was the camera angle, but the tyres of the pony lux did appear to hang outside of the guards a little. I’d be a bit worried about a defect notice getting slapped on with that, so I’d recommend a set of wheel flares to get those tyres nice and safe and keep ol’ PC Plod off your case. Keep it up, can’t wait to see what’s next.

To get the tow ball off, why not lay an oil pan under in, then tape down a bunch of plastic around it. Spray it down with a lot of penetrating oil, then wrap the plastic around it, fill it some more. After it sits for a few days, and probably some extra applications you could remove the ball, hammer it a few more times, the hook it to an anchor and give it little stiff pulls with the throttle. Only a few feet yank. Or you could work a few pulleys and use your wince to tug it.
