Some people can comment... but I can't see any of their videos with some examples. At least we going out there and having good time. Yes, we did some stupid things but you start off somewhere and learn from there. Thank God for no disasters and we're much more equipped now and playing it safe. Thanks to all for positive criticism, advice and feedback.

Decent rigs. But piss-poor driving. My biggest hint to you: you DON'T need full throttle at all times! I mean when the speedo reads 120kph and your tire makes contact, bad stuff is going to happen. Go slow = don't break stuff.

its actually pretty fun getting to the top of a mountain and there are 10 guys up there with $30,000 into their jeeps with their mouths open. happens all the time in the ranger, was funnier in my stock xterra, and when i got the 74 vw bus up to chinns lake , CO. people were shitting their pants. a friend of a friend actually sold his double locked, geared jeep on 40"+ tires for an open diff samurai on 32's because he said it was boring. no skill needed, turn the idle up and sit back. edit: and i'm not hating on jeeps, i'm hating on people that think they need all that stuff instead of honing the skill and doing the research to learn. way more of an accomplishment to figure out how to get the truck up there instead of paying someone to put parts in it for you so you'll be able to do it. there are a bunch of people who have a ton of money invested that push the limits of those vehicles. thats not who i'm talking about either. i'm talking about "building" a $100,000 vehicle and doing blue trails.

As someone who has not done serious off-roading like you guys, and someone who watched your fails videos in reverse, I will observe that the stock vehicles got stuck because they didn't have enough traction or ground clearance. The heavily modified (and very beat-up) vehicles you run now have markedly better traction and ground clearance, and are definitely more capable, but tend to still get stuck because various parts of the drivetrain can't take the strain and break. Hence you still get stuck, but getting unstuck is now more about wrenching than winching, making it more expensive and time-consuming. I shudder to think how much money has been poured into building and repairing these trucks, but it does look fun. Thanks for posting it all for our entertainment. :)

ifs vehicles require a driver.... solid axle u just point and steer, there is no challenge involved... i had a gq, point and steer and it got where i wanted it... quite boring really... now ive got a pajero. i love it purely because i actually have to pick my lines and pay attention to what im doing...
@oldcratch
@oldcratch 10 жыл бұрын
Shane Foster There is a challenge where I go, I have yet to see an IFS vehicle even get 1/4 of the way through the rock trails we use. By your post you obviously don't get that serious when off-roading (and I mean "OFF-ROAD" not dirt roads or trails). Defend it all you want, doesn't change the facts, standard solid axle will always beat standard IFS when serious 4-wheeling is involved, no if, and's or but's about it. By your argument the same could be said about your rig (point and steer) when compared to a 4 door front wheel drive sedan. Kinda silly for an argument huh? No matter what, glad to see your out on the trails though.

You should see some of the places i went with my measily Opel vectra A hatchback... Not even the 4x4 version. It's all tyres and driver. And beeng a light car it's easy for the pasengers to get out and "carry" it out of a pickle.

Ever see King of the Hammers? Half of the trucks are IFS now... These guys are just a couple pointers away from success ;)
@oldcratch
@oldcratch 10 жыл бұрын
TRX250r08 Saying that, is like saying the Space Shuttle is just like an Ultralight...Less than half are IFS btw, and the IFS vehicles "rock bounce" not "rock crawl" (look up the difference), biiiig difference, the ONLY way they make it is full throttle with a big engine. And yes, I've seen King of Hammers live, the last 2 years I was there. I live in So-Cal, so it's in my back-yard. NIce try though... ;)

We don't know what we're doing but we've had our fun and thank God nothing's happened and no one was hurt. We're still learning and we've changed the way we do things since then. At least, common courtesy would dictate you being nice to other people and not insult them in every post you make. If you really felt sorry for us, you'd approach this in a nice way, with nice words and give your constructive criticism. Your inner self just can't help it but display what sort of a person you really are.

Good on you guys for getting out and locking the hubs, but I would highly suggest that you all go and do a day course in using your 4by's. Some of the mistakes made were very avoidable. Do it as a group and have fun on the day. This isn't a dig or flame, just a hint from a guy that has spent a lot of time out there. And you don't need the biggest lift or tyres. Knowledge of your truck will get you through more then any traction aid. Keep it up guys!

Thanks mate. Considering those were the only snags in that year out of all other wheeling that's been done, it's not bad. Yeah, I've replaced that towball with a recovery hitch since then after being advised about the danger. I've also replaced my old worn AT's with MT's now, you can check it out in my recent videos.

The black Grand Cherokee, the silver Hilux and the white Wrangler already had front and rear lockers. The 200-series silver Land Cruiser doesn't need them as the traction control system works well (see in other video). The red Nissan Navara got front and rear lockers installed after that. The gold 100-series (sold) at the beginning, the blue and gold 80-series Land Cruisers at the end, the blue Daihatsu Feroza, the black Hilux have no lockers yet.

fails?
@AussieFourWheelers
@AussieFourWheelers 11 жыл бұрын
The towballs aren't rated to take that strain and the bolt that holds it can easily break off and the ball flies like out of a slingshot into the recovery vehicle. People have died or have gotten badly injured as a result. That was the second time we did it in the video and after learning about it, never again. Now there's a proper hitch recovery shackle in place.

You guys have balls trying to do stuff with trucks that were not only not made for it, but not tricked out very much if at all. I applaud you for trying. I had a 1998 GMC Jimmy 2 Door. 4.3 L Vortec V6. That thing had power, and with a good set of tires, would go all over the damn place. Had I not been stupid and blown the transmission, I'd still have it to this day. Miss that little beast.

Very easy. He's got a 5 inch lift with a 2 inch diff drop and no lockers. So without lockers, you can't crawl over so somethings gonna give way with a bit of force. Without lowering the diff, CV angles are terrible and he'll keep snapping CV's until that is sorted. He can't lower the diff any more than 2 inches without modifying the cross member, which is in the way. So the best and cheapest remedy would be to keep it at 3 inches lift (keep the 2 inch diff drop) and get a front auto locker.

Well color me learned. There's a lot of similar terrain here in So. California, and my world opened up after putting a rear locker in my Cherokee XJ. Thanks for the vid, looks like you guys have a bunch of fun going out.

Are you saying that based on your own experience??? My Jeep is a 2005 model with a HEMI engine. It has been going offroad regularly for the past 2 years. Considering it's now 8 years old, it served me great. I had not one issue with it. It is an amazing vehicle and hasn't missed a beat. I also had the model (WJ) prior to this one and if I wasn't confident in them then, I woudn't have gotten this one either. Maybe I was just lucky with 'em. Get a Patrol? Well, yeah, I did get a GU Patrol too :)

Lovely vid, and some shockers. Some of them were down right power before thought, but over an entire year, that's going to happen to even good drivers. Great vid.

Those are some tough trails, good work fellas! It's cool to see so many wagon body style vehicles with open diffs tackling serious terrain. Thanks for the vid!

All this was over a one year period, so in that case, not bad considering the total amount of terrain covered.
