North-east of the Moreme Game Reserve in Botswana is the Savute region of the Chobe National Park, famed for its large herds of big game and the carnivores that follow them. We set off for a few days of open campsites, and hopefully, animal encounters.

Your were on the wrong side of Savuti for game completely, Rhino Vlei is notoriously bad for game sightings, you should have stuck around wilddog swamp and focussed mainly along the channel and Harvey's pan. Your game drives seemed to also be so late that most animals, well the predators anyway would have been extremely difficult to spot. I have never ever left Savuti without seeing Leopard around Sable HIll, lions on Harvey's pan and plenty Hyena. At CV4 you should have stayed up late, there is a Hyena that usually from around 11pm walks a specific route around all the camp sites as well... But another amazing video to say the least, what you lack in sighting you definitely make up in cinematography :-)

We did a very similar route a few years ago, so it is really nice to see the places from a different perspective, thank you! Just a note, The Hornbill in Savute is a Bradfield's Hornbill, and not a Red-Billed Hornbill. Thanks for the nostalgia!

Beautiful imagery, nice story. We'll miss Gwen too! Really loved the Paul's contribution to and interplay in the overlander's workshop. Hoping for some more of that in this series. Maybe we will hear more about Pauls truck designs at the end?

I particularly enjoyed the detail shots that, unfortunately, are too often ignored by travelers. There are a million video clips of elephants, but few of ants, and almost none of bleached bang-preventers.

8:05 with the owl. Here are some stories. Am not sure if you know this but in some African cultures (East Africa), when an owl comes over to someone's home and hoots through the night, it is perceived as a sign of bad luck, and sometimes a premonition that someone from the visited home is bound to die (Uganda). So when I was still a kid, we would spend the night chasing the owl away. In Tanzania, witch doctors (juju) use the eggs when casting spells, so owl eggs (rare as they are) are quite sought after. Good series Andrew! Watching this in 2021!

@kclamer 6 жыл бұрын
@@4xoverland I see, we can have radios up to 50w when they are remotely mounted and 5w when they are held up to the head here in the USA so there is plenty of range. A lot of guys use HAM radios as well.
