So for those asking about extrude honing, i do not remember what year it became popular in hotrodding but early 90's seems to be close to my memory. It's uses a grinding media in a putty like form pressed thru passages to open up and clean them of blockages and in the automotive world to port efi intakes because some of them are impossible to port any other way. It can be used to great effectiveness to add power around a peak not change the actual peak power rpm. it's like porting but with silly putty and a big assed hydraulic ram.

@albertgaspar6274 жыл бұрын
depends on the intake. The long runners of the EFI would get whipped by a single plane, above 4,500 RPM. But a carb cools the intake charge with the venturi effect of its "barrels", while the typical EFI intake has so much surface area, it soaks up a ton of heat. And with the shock towers in the engine compartment blocking airflow from rad to firewall, there's a lot of engine heat to soak up.

One of the big 5.0 Mustang magazines in the day, did a dyno test of intake manifolds. Found the low riser OEM intake used in T'birds and 94 GT Mustangs wasn't as restrictive as thought. That an Extrude Honed stock HO intake could match a GT40--when they were new and expensive, it was a consideration, tho Ron Anderson Performance could port one out and really make some dyno numbers. I would imagine an Extrude Honed Cobra or Explorer could do better, since you aren't going to hone a GT40 tubular. Holley's Systamax reminds me of the $1,000 Saleen intake.

When my mom passed I got her 95 GT convertible 5.0 5 speed, it's pretty soft I mean it scoots along nice but definitely isn't "fast" plus it's blessed with 2:73 gears! Woohoo. I do like the cruise rpm but the gears seem so tall you can turn it to around 55 in 2nd! Anyway I've been researching engine mods and I'm a little discouraged at the gains and all out HP of the 5.0, I'm used to the gains of chevy 350s where 350hp+ is effortless. With 302s 300/325hp isnt as easy and 400hp seems pretty stout for a 302. Am I wasting my money trying to make the 5.0 powerful...? Seems like the only way to have decent power without spending alot of money to get that little 302 is cam n turbo the 5.0 for around 400hp or building a 350 to 375hp 351... I would think even 350 NA HP or 400 HP mild turbo in a sn95 would be pretty respectable street car...maybe where a has a T5 a little deeper gear like a 3.40/3.50 so I can still have a comfortable cruise rpm.

They were all Chevy hardcore never even built a Ford. When they saw I had to do no block grinding for my rods to clear they were amazed. Stud girdle on mains and rockers. Very similar parts on both. They thought for sure my Windsor stood no chance. That Ford made no power crap was all I heard. Double the money later on my Ford even I was questioning my route I chose. We were on small tires. Foot braking no trans brake till later. Straight cut planetary for the glide killed my trans break budget and his. Any way we went to twiggs in Macon and Savannah before it closed and ran 6.10 all day no tuning no test. Once the mustang started to come around the economy fell out. I had to sell my engine for 5,000 to a cop in Atlanta. He said straight bolt up in his 91 he ran 9.80 in the quarter. These were N/A cars. Needless to say I noticed how much power and torque that 408 made which I'm not good on the cubes it was .40 over. It was a very impressive engine. Then I drove a built 347 and man the power band would kill that 383. Anyways just reminiscing the good ole day off 2005-07.

350 whp? 351W with junkyard GT40 heads, cam, springs-then add boost or nitrous

354 HP and 374 lb ft of torque would make for a fun Fox body with long tube headers, a full 3" dual exhaust with either Flowmaster or Borla mufflers. I'd love to have a Fox body with a mildly modified 302. I've ridden in a stroked 347 with all of the mods and it made around 600 hp and it was fun and fast, but my 612 whp Civic would've eaten it alive from a dig. In my humble opinion, while I am all about keeping it brand specific, it's hard to beat a Fox body with a well built LS with a good sized turbo on it...OR a GT500 swapped Fox, or a Voodoo swapped Fox, or a built Coyote swapped Fox. One thing I have always wanted to see was a 3.5L EcoBoost swapped Fox...idk why it's always been a dream of mine, but I have always wanted to see what the EcoBoost (hell, 3.5 OR 2.7) can do in a Fox...or even a SN95 (even though they're boats).

There's a guy up in Santa Rosa that does autocross in an SVO. I bought his old turbo setup. He had swapped in that 3.5 Eco. It's online somewhere.

I love unsponsored real world testing. This is literal proof that I don't need new heads or intake to increase low end torque in my 5.0 equipped bronco. I'm going to spend that money on lower gearing!

How can their be a horsepower gain between stock and gt40 if the stock intake flows more cfm than the stock heads?

STOCK INTAKE IS RESTRICTIVE AND LONGER RUNNER
@jakew23502 жыл бұрын
@@richardholdener1727 is it really more restrictive than the heads though? I thought the stock heads only flowed like 145cfm, surely the intake flows better than that

@@richardholdener1727 sorry, I totally had it backwards, the intake is 145cfm, heads at around 160cfm

Richard, can you explain why you don't show dyno runs from idle? Since most people drive their cars on the street, I'm sure a lot of them would love to see how the bottom end is affected. Also, do you have any comparisons of heat wrapping manifolds/exhausts?
@richardholdener17274 жыл бұрын
you can't be at WOT at idle

In a previous video he said the engine dyno is limited on the minimum rpm it can run. Chassis dynos can go lower.

Well stated sir. It's like buying an air filter that promises up to 45 hp gain... lmao Love the videos. keep em coming. Kinda wondering about the results of changing nothing more than LSA on an already somewhat efficient combo. I'm used to the 106 to 104 LSA cams even thou idle quality isn't very good unless compression is real good. In a street car though a vacuum brake booster becomes worthless. (maybe a hydraboost system would fix that idea though?) Just a thought.. Thanks again sir..

what happens when you add boost to the torque numbers at the bottom end that you lose naturally asperated with a freer flowing intake? Do you gain more or does the it still lag at the bottom compared to the more restrictive intake?
@richardholdener17274 жыл бұрын
Stop thinking in terms of flow-the intake is not flow-its reflected waves that enhance cylinder filling (like boost) at specific engine speeds

Are the Systemax intakes and heads still available? How about extrude honing?
@Scootermagoo4 жыл бұрын
A lot of intake stuff is based upon finding the right length to the runners, longer runners make peak torque lower and affect the rpm the engine makes power, shorter is vers visa, extrude honing doesn't change the tuning range or very little as the runners get bigger, the nice thing about extrude honing is getting to places that a traditional porter can't get to and fixing any casting flash and stuff in the runner itself, you can extrude hone a set of heads and intake till they start showing holes, and all it'll do is broaden the power around the peaks. So get the length right then hone them out.
