Right Right insertion --> Left Rotation Left Left insertion -->: Right rotation Right Left insertion --> Right Left Rotation Left Right insertion --> Left Right Rotation For those of you like me who are wondering why did she ask us (at 15:32) to convert Tree 3 into Tree 1 and not Tree 2 by moving x under y here is what i think might be the reason. Image you are writing a program which takes the input and stores them in the form of an AVL or BBS tree. Now to balance the tree after every insertion you'll have to perform right or left rotation. For this you might ideally create two custom right and left functions that takes care of your right and left rotations. Now if you want to move x under y to make tree 3 look like tree 2 then none of those two custom functions will be able to do that and you will be forced to create another custom function that can handle such cases. But if you want to convert it into tree 1 then you can do it with the existing functions and avoid creating another custom function
