Chad provides a comprehensive lesson on Calorimetry. He begins by defining a calorimeter and its heat capacity and then showing how it can be used to experimentally determine the enthalpy of a reaction. The specific heat of a substance is then defined and examples are worked showing how to calculate the quantity of heat absorbed or emitted from a substance based upon its change in temperature using the following equation:
q = mC(Delta T)
A standard heating curve is also presented, and it is demonstrated how to calculate the heat involved in a phase change as well. Multiple example calculations are performed at every stage of the lesson.
