@@regulardudegungearreviewsh3132 if you ever get into testing ammo I wonder how that blackhills with the Barnes 50 grain TSX does in all these barrel lengths. That round seems gnarly AF out of even a 7.5” barrel. Side note where did you get that LMT? Is the handguard also LMT? They are by far my favorite company they make the best stuff you can buy. I adore my Enhanced BCG and Bolt on my block 2. Where did you find that tho? Looks like a KAC or dd almost

@@T20-c8f I'd def be open to more testing. I wonder how hard it'd be to get an ammo sponsor? 🤔 Lol I assume that you're asking about the 14.5; the L7D1 upper? I got it from Rooftop Defense. A few months back, LMT was offering them on their website for like $329. The handguard on it is a Centurion C4 with FSP cutout. Super solid rail

Nice vid. Really wish you had a 20 inch barrel to compare it to since it was the original plan by the man himself. I commented on the other vid. I think powder burn rate has to do with this. And this isn't all uncommon. cf did a 9mm barrel length test and at 8 inches it was at it peak performance. 10 inches started going negative and 16 was more or less bout the same fps as 8 inches or so. So efficiently speaking your lugging 8 inches of steel for no gain whatsoever.😂

Would be interested to see the velocity difference when adding a suppressor. Especially with the shorter barrel lengths.
@regulardudegungearreviewsh31323 ай бұрын
So I was working on a vid that does a comparison showing just that, but lots of my footage got compromised. But, I can tell you the difference on my guns with my cans were negligible. Single digits FPS. Small enough that could just be variation from bullet to bullet

@@regulardudegungearreviewsh3132 Using a YHM Turbo K RB I've been finding surprisingly that I gain between 40 and 50 fps on average out of a 13.9" and 18" rifle using direct thread.
@T20-c8f8 ай бұрын
Oh and to comment on the data, super interesting the 11.5 to 12.5. Classic firearms had a video that showed the same. Also the 16-18… totally proves the MK12 holland recce rifle. I know holland knew his shit but damn he’s absolutely right. I guess the marines are too in switching from a 20” to a 16”.
@regulardudegungearreviewsh31328 ай бұрын
I was super surprised about that also. More so the lack of real velocity jump going from 16" to 18"
@markmichaels58356 ай бұрын
Does it seem like the std deviation of a 12.5 is higher than the others? I havent done all the math but on other KZbin videos it always seems like 12.5 has a high inconsistency. Mostly with mid length gas it feels like.
@markmichaels58356 ай бұрын
Oh, and I'm curious, do you notice any smoothness difference between the 11-16? I'm thinking about building a 11 or 12.5 coming from a 16
@regulardudegungearreviewsh31326 ай бұрын
I dunno, man. I recognize that I have a sample size of one. I kinda feel that the vid can just be used as another data set to add to the pile of others' data collection. I love my 12.5"
@LRRPFco523 ай бұрын
5.56 spits a lot of unburnt powder out no matter the barrel length because the propellant column is so tall and narrow, which is a recipe for lack of full conversion. This leads to inconsistent SD and lots of gas port erosion.

Great video for my workout thank you! I will prob start going towards 16” from 14.5 now on
@regulardudegungearreviewsh31328 ай бұрын

@LRRPFco523 ай бұрын
I think that had more to do with differences in bores than barrel length. Aberdeen has gigantic sample sizes to draw from, and M4 w/ M855 62gr fleet data was 2920fps. M193 was 3050fps. 11.5"-12.5" makes more sense in 5.56. Projectile weight is so low that it isn't doing much at distance anyway, even from 20".
@RocketsRedGlare233 ай бұрын
I've seen several tests result in a 150-ish fps difference from 10.5" to 11.5" with only about another 60 fps seperating it from 12.5" so i was surprised to see those results reversed with your testing. I have been taught there was a negligible difference between 12.5" and 14.5" and that held true here. The 16" preformed as expected for me as i have long thought that from 10" to 20" the three greatest gains are at 11.5, 16 and 20. This would seem more to be like 12.5, 16 and 20 but either way lol 16 really is the best compromise on size and velocity from 10 to 20 inch barrels regardless of unconstitutional agency rules.
