This nomadic market gardener has created a life of joy & purpose, influencing an entire community of growers throughout the Tampa Bay area, all while making an income to meet his own needs. Jim has been a pivotal role model of ours since 2011, not long after we first began to grow food. We can genuinely say that he was a significant catalyst for change in our lives & we owe the foundation of our success to Jim's influence.

Each year in late spring, Jim travels up to a little town just outside Eastport, Maine, to grow the most delicious, clean & vibrant food you can find. Then in early fall, he packs up & heads down to Florida to repeat the same plan.
Jim does not follow the rules, He creates his own evolving adaptations; a mixture of pure refined classic agriculture (the scythe), techniques passed along by elder growers, elements from books that have proven their worth & the intrinsic download from living with the land & slowing down enough to read it's own suggestions.
He is able to make an honest living doing this very thing he loves so much. His days bring him joy, purpose, connection & peace. The insights & techniques he has collected are invaluable. He plants, harvests, preps & markets in a way that naturally flows & the whole natural farming process is just waiting to be shared with you.
We have been to visit Jim before, but had never been able to come during the best & most productive time of the year for Jim. Everything is growing, blooming, ripening & the scenery around his camp is pure magic.

Absolutely love these visits with Jim. What a lovely man. And a lovely Garden. Three questions. 1: by green garlic do you mean ramps or as they call them in German, Barlauch? They positively go crazy during Barlauch season in Germany. People who hunt it in the wild Safeguard their secret hunting grounds just like mushroomers do. Question number two, you mentioned several times learning from Kaiser or is it Kayser? Who is that? I would love to also learn from whom you have learned. Do they have a website or a KZbin channel? And question number three: who is it that is developing the new amazing varieties that you are planting and can we buy seed from them as well? Again thank you for all the wonderful knowledge that you are so generous in sharing!

the person who took the food, probably was just hungry. If I had to do that, I'd replant the plant too... it's respectful even though they took it without asking. Probably figured you wouldn't let them have any. Maybe they were homeless nearby or something and just wanted food. Taters are good for when you're hungry, and easy to stick in a fire or something and eat, even raw. Love the yard. I'm wanting to do something like this in my back yard. I have really bad soil right now though, and am looking for a source of wood chips to start amending it. I have very little money though so any improvements are small and slow, lol. Thanks for the insight into the planting pattern you use. I'm gathering info about this kind of thing as I'm getting old and need to find some way to make money before I get too old to do the job I do.

Flea Beetles.......put a layer of grease on one side of a piece of cardboard, take cardboard grease side down, wave 1-2 inches above the plants with flea beetles. Flea beetles jump up when afraid. They get stuck in the grease, bag it up and throw away. You'll caught them, repeat as needed.

Florida is under ground already under sea level , you have to buy soil and bed it well to grow , dig a yard up 2 ft down and run a liner to stop weeds and sand and clay crap from going to soil and the plants roots , and fill it with soil and compost mixed. Don't just do soil by itself. It needs a super mix. And then don't put too much nutrients in the soil in Florida , just feed normally with a gallon mixed water at a time. Don't use hoses and spray , don't use well water , in less your know where the source is . Florida is hot and humid avoid those plants that don't do well In heat. Okay well I'm ranting .. have fun

Jaemee Gasaway Amen to that! I think the time has come for us to begin planting our yards for food too. It can save tons of money. Even the organic food and veg in the store is crap and way too expensive. Its also hard and tasteless. Jim shows us how we don’t have to plant the old fashioned way in a garden with straight lines and it can be gorgeous as well. Win win. It also brings us closer to nature and gets conversation going with neighbors. We need to be outside and get out heads out of the electronic devices. Look at the Back To Eden Method. Paul Gautchi is amazing on this topic. We need to think completely different about our food and how to take controls of our health.

"Pests ARE the messengers"....so true! They are indicators of why a crop isn't doing well....very rarely do crops fail BECAUSE of pests...its the pests that are telling you that the crop doesn't like the environment!😀🍅
@NotSoCrazyNinja
@NotSoCrazyNinja 5 жыл бұрын
I believe otherwise due to experience. In my area of the world, it doesn't matter what you plant or how you tend it, pests will destroy it if you do nothing to stop them. Fruit trees, for example, squirrels will destroy the entire crop before it even ripens. Squirrels will also eat ALL of the pecans on pecan trees before they ripen. Practically all walnuts will be destroyed by worms by the time they ripen. Crows and deer will destroy your corn. Birds will destroy your tomatoes. Aphids and ants are literally everywhere for late spring and halfway through the summer. June bug larvae will eat all the roots of your plants. Racoons and rodents will devour anything they figure out is tasty. You can't just "let nature handle it" or you will never get anything in my area because the pests will destroy it/eat it all. I did some testing and planted some food plants and just let nature handle it. They didn't do well at all. All were stunted from pest damage and some managed to produce something, but the pests got all of it before it could ripen. In the end. it was a waste of time.

Florida has a bad cop to citizen ratio, they have more prisons in Florida than schools . They are jam packed prisons and jails and they have actully have prisons that are still being built and dont have anyone in them. They call them fema camps, but there camps for when the world goes to war for the third time. Florida Sherrifs will run it the way they want and they respond to the top Dawgs for more money and power . They think they own you if youre pulled over or detained. Florida has too many cops and too many quotas to meet to keep them away from effecting everyone in the state at least once in a while , you cant stay away from them. They also revenue more money than any business or monopoly in Florida, the cops run it there. They are harassing everyone , I'm sure this guy has been violated and ticketed just cause he Isent buying from the poison and junk food grocery store. They want full control and Id never ever call them for anything but life threating situations .

This guy!!! My goal is to become this guy! I finally have my dream garden: a full acre of rich Iowa soil, that was a barn yard for about 150 years. Got my deer fence up, compost heap and no pesticides! Plus two grandsons who love gardening (and they work cheap!). The sweet life!

Just tuning into these series of videos.All i can say is wow!! The amount of knowledge attained in just one video is incredible!!! We are definitely raising kids the wrong way when you watch what they could be learning and thriving from.This is the future of today’s youth since we can see how terrible society overall has become.The culture has become just too toxic for everyone that this is the perfect way out of that cesspool.We send our kids to school who’ll never learn this which is essential to life.The remedy is here and looks like we don’t have any choice anyway.Thank you too all in the making of these videos.

Making 5 thousand dollar off of this little garden? Is that realistic? I need to quit my job then. LOL
@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms 5 жыл бұрын
It is 100% realistic, if not lowballing. Control your input costs, maximize the cash per crop, per foot, per bed, minimize losses (which WILL happen), KNOW your local market. Food is only getting more expensive.....not less.

Jim has been a huge inspiration of mine: has he thought of building the potatoes up? Mollison talks about potato towers. Use chicken wire, small amount of compost and then mulch to the top, continuously adding mulch as it reduces over time. Increases yield by large amounts as tubers emerge from stem. also looks cool and adds 3d shape to the garden.
