Hey everyone! It's Nathan from the video(: I just wanted to give a huge shout-out to Henry for suggesting the idea and having me in the video! Reflecting on the experience, here are some quick thoughts I thought I'd share with you all from my perspective: 1) Anyone can be a photographer! I am still very new to the craft, and like any skill you have to dedicate some time and enthusiasm to find success. To be honest, I did not have much expectations for my photos during this little challenge, and to my surprise they actually turned out pretty decent! My advice is to just start, go with the flow, trust in your abilities and you'll surprise yourself with what you'll be able to accomplish. 2) Find others to practice your craft with! I realized how helpful/fun it was taking photographs with another person. If you need that little push, finding a friend to share the experience can be very worthwhile! Wishing you all the best!

dude! if u have the extra money u should sell your a6000 and get an a6400! i used to have an a6000 and it is a great camera to say the least but the price to performance ratio of a6400 is outstanding and you can feel and see the difference when u switch. the a6000 lasted me a good 2 to 3 years since i got it in 2016 and bought the a6400 in december 2019. of course you can wait for the next apsc camera which i assume is gonna be an a6200 and/or a7000 but that might be a while

Yeah these are dumb. Hell, I can and do use my D90 still to make great images and that DSLR is more than 10 years old now.

I like to use the ""Battlestar Galactica" analogy. The RDM Battlestar Galactica show from the early 2000 has quite old CGI, and the quality of the footage can be a little grainy. Does it beat almost every new scifi shows & movies with their brand new CGI and 4k cameras? Yes. Even if we don't count the excellent writing and acting, the way BSG uses its limited CGI is inspired, so you can still have a great time even in 2022. "The Expanse" is one of those few new shows that actually understands this, so we have both cool CGI and an excellent show at the core. In the end, cool gear and tech help, but the artist still matters more.

I have seen better photos on an iphone than some of the most expensive cameras. Sure, pixel peeping will always show up flaws. But the bottom line will always be creativity & the eye of the photographer. Thats what makes art art. Cameras are just tools to achieve what an artist wants to create. Important tools. But they aren’t the most important thing.

Yup, after taking a couple classes at NYU (night school) I went out and purchased my first camera, Nikon FM (as in Fully Manual) 10 with a 35-70mm zoom lens (which my instructor would have called “cheating” for not staying with a 50mm fixed) and shot the limited two rolls of chrome per day! From that day on... the rest of my gear was toys.

I understand the concept, but better gear will allow you to get better footage, caveat; “as long as you know how to use it” Better gear allows you to be more creative. If you just want to point and shoot a $500 camera will met all your needs. Should of swapped backwards and forwards to see how the gear can be used with the same shots.

This is silly, anyone can pick up an old d200 or similar, grab a kit zoom, some cheap nd grad filters and a Chinese compatible flash. Total cost, anywhere between USD 200 and 300. With this and a basic beanbag or backpack for optional support (or a picket post, stick cut from a tree or the hood of your car) anyone with a general idea of what he's doing can take better pictures. Postprocessing as optional extra or shoot JPG and grab the out of camera images. Oh well.

I have to be honest but I gave a dislikes to this video just because I felt the amateur was an act. Most amatuer knows what they are doing and they have a decent understanding how to work with manual mode and the differences between focal length. Especially the difference between prime lens and zoom, so IDK if this video was based on an amateur photographer who is starting to understand the concept of photography or an amateur that takes his art seriously but doesn't commercialize himself into the industry

Really enjoyed watching this - for sure the age old question with everyone who's doing photography and video is how much does gear actually matter and what can be achieved by pros by pushing "cheap" gear. Agree with the others - would love to see an analysis from you on your shots (where you felt limited by the non pro equipment), and on Nathan's shots (where you think he could have utilized the equipment better). Thanks for this - it's giving me some ideas on how to do something similar for videography too! :) (Nausheen from Zen & Zany in China :))

The photo composition and quality from both photographers looks great, but I want to see them be more imaginative. The things that stand out, of course get photos of them. But the scene doesn't just include the cool stairs and the beach. I wish people made use of the things you never see in videos. A simple sidewalk you used to get there that you didn't think it was worth filming on. An out of the way building you caught in the corner of your eye but never even turned to look at. A part of the beach where everyone else has deemed no good pictures are coming from and left abandoned.

So at this point I am realizing it more about photography and experience not the fear, because I was shooting my local high school swim meet with a canon t3i kit lens. And I was struggling with my manual getting blurry photos and lighting was not that good but I learn that by changing setting to sports I was able to capture some cool photos

@@angus5427 Not necessarily, there are lots of people walking around with lots of equipment and have no idea how to take advantage of their equipments capabilities. They are simply in it for the technology or just to say look at me, I have more money than sense.
