Onibaba, Beau Travail and Taste of Cherry are all currently on the Criterion Channel. I will check them all out based on your recs. And I agree, the Raging Bull is one of the best examples of 4K I've seen.

Loved your recommendations. I am a huge fan of Claire Denis and agree about everything you said about Beau Travail. For another movie with an unforgettable ending you should check out Portrait of a lady on fire. I was blown away by it.

Oh my gosh I am so happy to see Taste of Cherry on here! I love Kiarostami so much and Taste of Cherry is easily my favorite of his works. To this day there is one scene that makes me uncomfortably cry

As an Indian would highly recommend the Apu trilogy directed by Satyajit Ray.

I really enjoy the films from Ray that I’ve seen. The Hero is such a great character study. I’ll more than likely be watching the Apu Trilogy very soon!

While I’ve heard of most of these, I have seen none of them. The ones I’m interested in the most however are Midnight Cowboy, Taste of Cherry, and Beau Travail. A recommendation I have for you in the collection, that admittedly is pretty well know, so it’s not some hidden gem, is Godfrey Reggio’s documentary Koyaanisqatsi, spine number 640. The movie is unlike no other I’ve seen. There’s no plot, no characters, no dialogue, nothing that would make it a conventional movie, just image and music. It’s a documentary and meditation on our relationship with technology and how it’s changed the land that we live on. The soundtrack, done by Philip Glass, is hauntingly beautiful, and will stick with you long after the credits finish rolling. There’s two sequels, Powaqqatsi and Naqoyqatsi, however I consider the first to be the best. I’d highly recommend giving it a watch if you haven’t already. Absolutely love this video by the way

Taste of cherry and midnight cowboy peak my interest 👌👌 My suggestion for you is Something wild, Fisher King And something that is not in criterion and seeing your interest in the masculinity topic go with Beach Rats

I've only seen Onibaba but it's been a long time. Definitely needs a revisit. I have Taste of Cherry and Raging Bull but I have yet to watch them. As for pick-ups, I've so far picked up The Devil's Backbone, The Celebration, 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Umberto D and The Life of Oharu. I can't wait to get WALL-E when that comes out and if I have enough spending money, maybe I'll pick up the Infernal Affairs trilogy.

Good choice. Unfortunately Taste of Cherry & Beau Travail are my least favorites. Felt extremely disconnected and bored but beautifully shot though.
