I liked Before These Crowded Streets by Dave Matthew's band when it came out. Songs like The Stone and The Dreaming Tree are great, but I've since added 4 more albums by them and were left unimpressed. As for the others, I very much agree!

I saw Cream in 1968, Thet were powerful but keep in mind that they were a band with three top notch players. I had no interest in Eric Clapton after his Cream period. It baffles me that in the seventies he was on everyone's turntable. I would call him inoffensive I suppose.

@Cap683 Clapton's post Cream solo music was certainly inoffensive if not bland. But his racist views back then were offensive.

My list includes Roxxette (washed out pop), Modern Talking (Borat's favorite band, I guess), Duran Duran and its derivatives, new afro-pop music (so auto-tuned it makes me puke), new Brazilian sertanejo music (mediocre arrangements [?] and lyrics, a contest to elect the best of boring equals). The 5 artists you mentioned I also don't want anywhere near my collection for exactly the same reasons. Especially Eric Clapton when I found out about his full tilt racist rant at a concert in Birmingham on August 5, 1976. I have an exception which is Derek and the Dominos' 'Layla...'. which I have and enjoy a lot. As for the extras, I also agree with you.

Fun fact: Eric Clapton is an anagram for narcoleptic. Brit rock scribe Charles Shaar Murray nailed it when he described a Clapton concert he was dragged to by an aquaintance as like blues encased in a glass cabinet.

100% agreement on Matthews. You know my thoughts on Clapton and Garth 😁. Despite hating him on a personal level, I do have two Nugent records from the 70s. I never play them, but I do have them. Loathe Limp Bizkit (and Korn for that matter). King Diamond is horrible. All my life, I have encountered instances where people said I should like KD or Mercyful Fate, but I can't stand it - completely because of KD himself. That operatic sh%t is impossible to listen to. Sadly, I was subjected to a set by him when he opened for Slayer. I'm neutral on Ghost because I haven't listened to them at all. Friends said I would like them because they are (supposedly) like Blue Oyster Cult, but I am skeptical.
@lostmixtapes

Yeah, I can’t make it through a single song with KD’s voice. But I’m strangely fascinated by him too. Ghost…watch the videos. The Papa Emeritus stuff is definitely a different take on a backstory…but then music comes in.

Totally with you on DMB, never understood the hype. Nugent and Clapton is a bit different, they were staples on FM, so I heard a lot of their stuff and have a few of their records. But I agree with you about their views -- just awful. Perfect example of why artists should (for the most part) stay out of politics. Can't bring myself to toss out their records, but I never play them any more.
@walterevans5658

I like your videos. I do quibble with one, I guess, principle in this one, though. I don’t let someone's politics determine whether I like their music or not. You mentioned politics for a couple of them. Unless they are pushing those politics in their music, their personal politics are irrelevant. And on Clapton, not sure what particular politics you mean with him, but a lot of what has been said about him politically turns out not to be really accurate if you look into it. For instance the covid shot. He actually got the shot. Twice. And had a reaction to it. And talked about that reaction. But then people thinks he refused to ever get vaccinated. Not true. Oh, and Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is a masterpiece of an album. If you don't like Clapton's playing on it, Duane Allman is also all over that album. Anyway, I like you videos, keep up the good work.
@lostmixtapes
@lostmixtapes Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I really didn’t mean for politics to be part of this. I guess that’s why I mention it but don’t elaborate. Clapton has just always bored me. I wasn’t even thinking of Covid when I mentioned him. Ted Nugent I never liked, but I can’t stand the guy in general. Almost everything that comes out of his mouth is very offensive to me…so yeah, his politics is part of that. But still, not my focus. Never liked his music. Thanks again for the comment and for checking out my videos.

Todd, Sorry for the response to an old video. Love your channel and most of your musical tastes mirror mine. Your Eric Clapton distaste I completely understand, with his crazy anti-vax stand and posing with the friggen Governor of Texas, Greg Abbot after a show that didn’t require vaccination verification. He was a real shit, not to mention his little known drunken rant in the 70’s where he was using racist epithets against immigrants. It spurred the e Rock against Racism movement in the UK by bands like the Clash and the English Beat. Robert Cray told him he would no longer be associated with. However, his stuff with the Yardbirds, especially John Mayall, is a Guitar aficionados dream that created the Clapton is God in London. If you haven’t head that LP, at least stream it, amazing guitar playing. Of course Cream is an essential 60’s band. The one Blind Faith LP is great, and his first solo LP, which he was backed with Delaney and Bonnie & Friends. I know you didn’t care for Layla, but man, again, it was with the core of Delaney $ Bonnie friends and of course, Duane Allman on guitar. I think I have to give him his due, his playing is fantastic up through that period. He’s turned into a strange guy since then. Everything after that is AOR crap. Anyway, love your channel, wanted to put my two cents in. Please listen to John Mayall featuring Eric Clapton, also known as the “Beno” cover. Best wishes Bruce

@@Bruce-w5i9o Thanks! I love comments on older videos too. Trying to keep these as evergreen as possible. Thanks for the recommendations. I’ve never really taken a deep dive into those Cream, Blind Faith, and other records you mention. It’s probably time to give them more of a chance. It’s the solo stuff I don’t like. Took me a while to get into JJ Cale because of the songs of his Clapton covered. Now I love the guy.

Couple of controversial picks: Ed Sheeran. Seems like a lovely bloke and no doubt really is a lovely bloke, but there is just no forgiveness in this world for the person responsible for Shape Of You. Honestly, that song was harder to outrun than covid. Queens Of The Stone Age. I just can't understand the loyal following this band gets. They have had some good songs over the years - three of them in my last estimation. But their most prominent song is No One knows, what a fucking dirge that is. They even played out their Glastonbury set with it FFS. Most of their output that I have heard just seems to be pure dross.

Never heard of Dave Matthews- probably never will. Nugent, my brother liked in the 70s. Utter tosh! EC (a crashing bore) I only have on 'Wheels of Fire' which is really one album with off-cuts stuck on. Limp Biscuit (bloody silly name); ditto Dave Matthews. Then it was country. Says it all. Never heard of the last two. Probably no bad thing...

@viper2148
@viper2148 Жыл бұрын
@@lostmixtapes fair enough on Ghost, however I think you’re being a bit harsh on Clapton, as if Cream had to rise to the level of The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks or the Who; which is ironic as band members from each of those had nothing but praise for Clapton. I don’t get the “politics” thing you have with Clapton. I get the voice, but ‘Clapton is God’ wasn’t his thing, but came about when a 20 y/o Clapton was getting attention from the greatest guitarists and blues men of the era. Everyone is entitled to their tastes, I can’t stand Elton John, Boston, Fleetwood Mack, or Motley Crue (indeed the entire genre of ‘glam rock’), but mostly because I consider them to be sell outs, not true artists (I’d put Dave Mathew’s Band in that camp, btw). IMHO Clapton at least tried to find explore meaning in what he produced.

As a collector I need to have the 70's Nugent albums on vinyl. Ted Nugent is an asshole, he writes horrible lyrics but those records are very cheap and they are good. I never heard Dave Mathews. I also got Clapton 70's albums very cheap and he has some good tunes on those albums, it's not as good as people say he is of course. I love Limp Biskit first CD and have their first 3 albums, they are allright and also those CDs are very cheap so you have to have them, it's like they are so bad and ridiculous they are good.. Love MF and King Diamond, best metal back in the day, and I hate anything country, dont want to have anything to do with country. In my 5 artists list I'll put The Eagles because they are too country. I think Ghost is the best rock band on the planet right now, they are just fun and have killer songs.

Def Leppard, check, Meat Loaf, check, Kiss and Bryan Adams, check, Jack Johnson, is he even still around? And I'm glad somebody mentioned Sir Paul. His fifty-year solo career just goes to show how much the magic of The Beatles was a group effort. The Boomtown Rats have always been just too ridiculous even to mention - is there even a single Rats fan out there? Metallica, well I have somehow ended up owning four or five of their albums so I must like something about them. I do think Master Of Puppets remains one of the pivotal metal albums of all time TBF. But to me they're a bunch a blokes loitering around the 60-mark, still trying to posture ands act like they're the hard kids at school. You're multi-millionaires, guys, what are you so angry about?
