I did a whole movie (music and sfx) on a crappy 8gig laptop by using subprojects. Really powerful stuff. Great video.

Hi David, great video as usual. I'm thinking to learn Reaper. I'm a Pro Tools user for what concerns editing and Logic for the midi and music creation. My main area of work is audio post production for film, do you think Reaper could be good for an audio post for film workflow ? Thanks

Or its mainly for sound design? Like can you conduct an entire process for audio post for film in Reaper?

Hi DL, I don’t have any post audio experience for film so I can’t really comment. I don't see why Reaper wouldn't be a great DAW for post audio. The one thing I would look into though is if Reaper can handle 5.1, 7.1, and other multi-channel formats. I’m not sure it can. So, that may be a deal breaker for you.

@@bcraigcraig4796 You can ask, but that is kind of hard to do on Pond5. Instead, you can research and see what items are popular on the platform. In my experience, you also require a large portfolio of sound effects before you start to see a few take off. Generally, it’s about 80/20. Only 20% of your sfx will sell while the rest won’t.

You didnt mention this in your video specifically, so just incase you were not aware, you can actually create subprojects for entire folders/tracks within your current project just by right clicking on your parent track and and selecting "Move Tracks To New Subproject". If you just add a tab to your window like you showed, it creates a whole new project and the two are not inherently connected in any way, but this way it keeps it all in your original project but lets you edit them separately. I use this on almost every project I work on because its such a space/CPU saver. I dont know if I explained that very well, but as always, Kenny Gioia has a good video about it. lol I linked it below. Hope thats helpful! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZ24iKqXmauSldk

Oh…cool. I knew it was possible but never really looked into how to do it. I’ll have to look into it. That may be really useful. Thanks for mentioning that!

try to write at least some music in it, this program is only set up. scripts conflict with each other everything is not optimized and poorly thought out

you'r right but i make music on it easily as a fl user

I write plenty of music on it, but yes everything is designed for the end user to set it up based on the way they work, it is not for those who want it to work as other DAWS may right out of the box, but that is the power of Reaper and why it is so great for SFX and Sound Design as you basically can make it work to your exact workflow each install can be tailored to just that user which in the end makes it much faster to use. but yes this takes some time to get it just to your liking. However once you set it all up it just works. But for music something like FL or Studio One is most likely a lot easier right out of the box for Midi based Music creation.
