Thank you NSA for the reply and the video. I finally got my spindle running. 1) the 0-10V corresponds to pin 1 even though it is not marked on the board. Do not use the physically marked pin 1 on the board. 2) the spindle relay corresponds with pin 17. Again do not use the pin physically marked pin 17 on the board. Ensure jumper is in proper location
@nsa17732 жыл бұрын
@@enriquemuro8210 I am glad you got your board working. Pin17 switches either the relay to turn the spindle on / off or is used for the B axis direction control depending on the setting of the on board jumper. You would only connect to pin 17 when using it with the B Axis otherwise you connect the relay contacts to the drive / spindle run connections. Pin 1 is the PWM signal from the system which controls the output voltage 0-10v - again you never connect to pin 1 - you connect the 0-10v +/- connections from the board to the analogue input of your spindle drive.

Hi, i have homing sensors npn NC so they are located at homing end of machine for homing reference olny. Actually i use a usb bob and all three sensors are wired in parallel to one input pin on bob, but i want to upgrade to UC400ETH and use the bob you have in video. The question is, can i use only one input pin from those 12,13,15 pins for homing purpose or each sensor needs to be hooked on it's particular axis pin ? One more thing noticed, between 1:10 and 1:20 in your video you specify what the jumper does. By saying the Connected P17 controls the on board relay, can you develop this section please and explain what is to be connected to P17 so it triggers the relay from outside? Isn't the relay meaned to be triggered from Mach when you switch the spindle on/off ? Idon't really know how the parallel bobs work. Also is there any reason why the 5v input power should go in usb port and not into the 5v screw terminals ? Thank you.
@nsa17734 жыл бұрын
I believe you can still wire all three homing switches into one input and setup Mach 3 accordingly. With the jumper connected the onboard relay is controlled from P17 on the parallel port via mach3 which is also connected to the screw terminal P17 which will follow the on / off signal 0v or 5v, you are not triggering the relay from outside! I am sure you can connect 5v to the screw terminals instead of the USB port if required.

An older desktop PC (WinXP?) is best for this type of breakout board with inbuilt motherboard Parallel port which operates at 5v logic. The port address is found in the main bios of the PC. After setup of your Machine / axis / wiring / mach3 etc if your X+ or Y+ or Z+ etc axis move in the opposite to your intended +ve direction then changing the state of the Dir Low Active signal for each incorrect axis will correct the movement. As we have connected the PUL+ to +5v the drive electronics usually uses 'Step Low Active enabled Green Tick! configuration for Step pulse control. I control / turn my spindle on/off and speed setting manually from its own control box.

hello there. I am wiring a 48V power supply with DM556 and the board in the video. I have seen other people not using the enable pins on the driver, what is the enable for and in what position do I set DIP switch 4 if I want to use it. Thanks
@nsa17734 жыл бұрын
The drive enable pin is a safety feature allowing you to easily enable / disable the drives / motors without having to kill the main power to the machine as this could result in damage to the drivers etc. It is recommended to use this feature. A machine would normally be fitted with one or more estop buttons wired into the breakout board estop input as shown in the video. When mach3 is configured correctly the drives will only be enabled when the system is reset with no estops activated and the drives will be safely disabled if an estop is activated/pressed. When a drive is enabled and no pulses are received to the drive in a few seconds the drive goes into holding force mode set by dip switch 4. This ensure the axis are held in position and cannot be easily moved. Normally you would set half power as this reduces heat build up in the motors. You may only need to set full power on i.e. a Z axis supporting a large load/weight.

Normally you would connect your second motor / driver to a spare port on the Bob and slave that port to the first motor port in mach3. All the enable +, dir + & pulse + on all axis go to the +5v this is the common feed. The pulse - and dir - go to different connections on the breakout board for each axis as indicated. The enable - for each drive goes to the one enable - connection on the breakout board.

how can you control 5 axis with 12 outputs?
@nsa17736 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you want to use the spindle relay (jumper P17 on) then the board can only control 4 axis. If you want to use the board to control a fifth axis remove jumper P17 and the board will control the fifth (B axis) on pins 16 and 17 but you lose control of the spindle.

Have you verified both drivers / motors are working correctly individually. If the driver / motor on the X port is working correctly disconnect the working driver / motor and connect the second driver / motor to the x port and verify that driver works ok. If your drivers have the terminal blocks this is easily done for testing. Once you have verified both motors / drivers do function correctly then it must be a setup problem. If the second driver motor does not work when plugged into the original working port then it is a wiring fault or hardware fault. How are you testing in Mach 3, typing manual commands or downloading Gcode file.

@@nsa1773 Hello many thanks for the quick response i have two drivers connected to one break out board and a stepper motor connected to each driver now when i connected the first stepper motor ( x ) i tested it in mach 3 and it worked so i then wired the next driver exactly the same way ,this was then wired to my ( Y ) stepper and to the breakout board and when i tried it in mach 3 , x still worked but y didnt even move .I them swopped the drivers around and it was still the same x worked and y didnt i then thought it might be something in mach3 settings but im not too sure about that bit ,before i turn all power on to the drivers i can turn the steppers by hand but once power is on there is no way i can turn the stepper motor even the y motor so i would of thought power is getting to it ,im just pulling my hair out so i do appreciate your help kevin
@nsa17734 жыл бұрын
Oakmeadows, once the basic setup is complete the motor should be tuned to your system. Details on doing this is not shown in the video. As you are probably not connected to any system go into motor tuning tuning and make a note of the X axis settings.Make sure the Y motor is set to the same as the X and try again. This relationship / setup will effect the number of pulses required to see movement. If you still have problems let me know and 8 will repeat the setup over the next few days and check.

Oakmeadows Areyou using the same breakout board in the video? Have you set the microstepping to the same value on all drives? In motor tuning for x axis for testing set steps per mm to ie. 1200, set velocity to say 300mm per min, set acceleration low, set step pulse and dir pulse to max (5us) Some drive must get the direction signal head of the pulse signal. You can use the keyboard to move the motor whilst changing these settings. Please advise what operating system and are you using pc or laptop etc. You can disconnect the enable signals and the drives should be enabled permanently. If genuine DM542 have you used the auto tune feature?

pls somebody tell me how to spindle clock wise or anticlock
@nsa17736 жыл бұрын
This board only has one relay which can be used for switching the spindle on / off. You can connect any other unused output I.e pin 16 to you own relay (ensure back emf protection) and connect those contacts to your direction control on your spindle. In mach3 you set the cw direction to say output 1 which you configure in ports and pins to pin 17 and the ccw to output 2 set to I.e pin 16. In order for your spindle / vfd accept external controls you have to change some settings in the vfd. Consult your vfd manual for this. Some trial and error may be required to prove this setup.

better wiring all limit SW and E-stop paraller if one closed all cnc stop no broken axis, and home SW add X,Y,Z limit and important probe pin 15 normal.
@nsa17732 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Limits switch arrangements can be dependent on the system application. Limits switches and estops should be Normally closed contacts which are physically broken by the switch activation. Estops should be separate to limit switches and whilst mach3 and other systems can disable the drives through the breakout board and software I always in industrial application run my estops through a safety monitoring relay and physically also safely kill power and enable signals to the drives. In my first initial startup system I had two n.c. Limits switches wired in series for each axis for each axis connected to the three inputs, mach3 was then configured to use one of the switches for each axis as a homing switch. The activation of any limits switch in operation will stop the entire process, and on reset will allow the system to be reversed from the activated limit switch.
