Sofia Mikkola -I always hated being told to smile in class. Ballet is HARD -I was concentrating! However me and a friend used to imagine we were dancing for someone gorgeous. Hard not to smile when you're thinking of a handsome face! it worked for us (sometimes!)

First of all, Claudia, I love the pink background you have in this video! Than back to the exercises: I did number 3 with the little ones today!! (I'am teaching in Switzerland, so a big time difference). And did smth similar to n.5 a week ago with the new therabands. (the theraband exercises were very useful for the girls to feel their muscles). Thanks for sharing your experience! Alexandra

Ok, I am completely psyched with your videos!!! I can't stop watching! This is the first time I see most of these exercises!! You think so out of the box, I love it! I had an injury, stress fracture on my foot, two years ago and my left leg has not completely gained it's strength back cause for a whole year I wasn't doing any releves on my left... Could we have some more out of the box strengthening calf exercises??? Cheers!!!

I'm a dancer and struggle with my concentration face. I bite my tongue and play with braces. Do you know any solutions to help stop this? Also does anyone else do something like this?

I had some really quirky concentrating habits at college. Now, if I find myself 'stress-concentrating' in class I break down the steps really slowly afterwards and try to get my brain/body more comfortable with the movements. I might do extra flexibility or conditioning exercises so the movement gets easier. Once I get more comfortable then the stress drops out of the concentration. hope this helps.

Claudia, do you ever work with other dancers like ballroom dancers? I'm a ballroom dancer and many ballet principles apply to ballroom as well. My teacher always tells us to use the right muscles when we lift our legs so we’re meant to use the underneath muscle on the thigh but i think I use the top one any tips?

This may help u.u are using ur chords(top part of the thighs)to lift your leg which is not completely wrong but u should think of squeezing ur inner thighs together even if they’re far,like magnets.the main muscle u use also is ur gluteus minimus which is present underneath ur butt and is a very small muscle u use to lift ur legs.always think of ur inner thighs attracting n ur gluteus minimus lifting so that u could hold it.practice to use ur chord less n not put all the responsibility on it.

You should make another video like this about other bad habits! Some suggestions: sickle, dealing with hyperextensions, and proper arm positioning (my arms always go behind my body kind of like i'm always doung swan lake and my elbow tends to drop). Great video!

The worst 2 habits I see is the dancer slamming his or her leg on the barre when doing stretches on the barre and tucking in their chin and not elongating their neck and head into space. The 2 is dropping into their grand plies. THAT.DRIVES.ME.CRAZY! A plie needs to breath like a wave of the ocean and therefore coordinates with the breath. It helps make the jump seem effortless and you do use less energy.

Hello Claudia, thank you for your interesting tips. About rolling the knee, I have a specific question: during "Shades 3" of La Bayadère, the landing from sissonnes à la seconde wearing the pointe shoes leaves me plié on my right leg and my left leg dévellopé à la seconde with a rolling knee, especially because my en-dehors is naturally bad albeit all the stretching. Now my knee is hurting from so much practicing. Should I just close my landing leg more to protect my knee?
