I just had 13 coffee meetings in March compared to 1 in February. I started reaching out to actors and AC's that are within my reach, and ask them to introduce me to a DP, and it got the ball rolling. Next Sunday I'm meeting a DP who shot a very successful documentary that is on Netflix! Hope these coffee meetings turn into something soon

@@LucForsyth nice! I’m really enjoying the way the boys put it all together. Great course and really learning a lot. The goal is more footage and less photos. Started doing Social Media Marketing for some local businesses and they tend to like the photo budget more than the video budgets. Challenging for sure but I appreciate the AOD team and dudes like yourself keeping the dream alive as we break through the difficult part of finding our filming identity.

That community aspect rings very true. Working in isolation, then putting yourself out there to people you don't know is a very daunting.

Being new to Videography and wanting to delve into Filmmaking... I realize I am with many others and have made every single one of these mistakes. Luc, you're quickly becoming one of my favorite KZbinrs to watch for advice on filmmaking. I don't usually sign up for things like newsletters and if I do Ill use a secondary or tertiary email so the emails to come don't bog down my inbox... but I think with you I'll be signing up with my primary so that I don't miss things to come. Keep it up man, you're more inspiring than you may think.

Too true! I had 100s of unfinished songs on my pc that "I'll record them one day" and then one day my hard drive broke and I lost everything. And thinking back, I wish I rather published 10 finished albums than sitting now with 0 albums. And funny enough I was thinking about re-writing and starting recording today and then that little voice convinced me otherwise.

Hi Luc! Outstanding video. I didn’t realize that the same Steven Pressfield who wrote The War of Art also wrote Gates of Fire. That was a very influential book in military circles 10-15 years ago. And yes, I made the same mistake in a video recently while mentioning a book title 🙃 Great job!

You caught me on that… at least in most points but most of all it is my lack of being able to network. I can literally stand in room full of filmmakers, producers and production managers, I can even talk to them but at the end of the day it is very likely that no one would know that I am a filmmaker myself (not fiction, really happened 😂). The idea of approaching someone just to tell him what I can do feels so weird to me. It always has been. It’s what kept me away from so many things, not only from filmmaking. I am a creative mind, just like I quote on all my channels. I can make films from start to finish, I am a musician, I can write creatively, I am a communications coach… all that stuff. And people and clients are always satisfied by my work. But going out, telling people all that… whole different story 😂 So thanks for catching me on that! 😂

My thing was cutting a lot out. It boiled down to fear and insecurity but still wanting to do my thing and the result was cutting corners and being lazy. To combat that i started planning my shoots, accepting and embracing my voice as a writer and director, and getting over my fear of rejection. People say no, but it’s not the of the road, just the end of that conversation with that person.

The networking thing is wonky for me. I network a lot, and thought people seem to like me when I'm in front of them chatting, they quickly forget me (and don't call for my services or to colab) so I just keep going solo.
@LucForsyth
@LucForsyth Жыл бұрын
Yeah, you have to follow up. I usually wait a month, then check back in. People just forget. Make a spreadsheet after you meet with someone, then reach out a month later, and again 3 months later. Situations change and they might need someone and not remember you were an option!
