Cars ran better and were more reliable when they were just mechanical. My 79 and 82 F150s ran perfectly fine well past the 1/2 million mile mark. My 79 had the 302 (5.0L) V8. My 82 had the 300, (4.9L) in-line 6cyl. That old 6cyl in-line was Bulletproof. And yes I put 600K miles on that engine. I also had a 96 F150 with the same 300 in-line 6cyl with the 4spd automatic transmission and multiport fuel injection. My 82 was a carburetor and a 3spd automatic transmission. I got 21mpg on my 82 and only 18mpg on my 96, because of all the smog regulations BS. So my 96 actually produced MORE pollution than my 82, because it burned more fuel. I swear if our government had a brain, they would take it out and play with it
