The analysis in this particular video is top notch. Most tutorials of this type focus strictly on the options and execution. But in this video FooserX focuses on the approach that one should take in a 5-row series. And that approach is based on entire match play (not just a single isolated possession), and opponent psychology. This is very useful knowledge for any forward trying to master the offensive 5-row and FooserX presents it in a way that makes sense and easy to understand. Great job!

FooserX I haven't yet finished the video, so you may possibly mention this already. But one other important note on why its wise to be patient with the ball whether on the 5 or 3 rod, is because defenders are most active in their movements and defense in that first 5 to 10 seconds (the 10 seconds obviously referring to when you have it on the 3 rod.). Defenders tend to slow down right there towards the end, which gives you a better view of the passing or shooting holes. Now as you mention, its still important to keep the defenders guessing. So a quick shot or pass every now and then is a smart thing to do as well.

Very helpful video, thank you. Question, how far back are you keeping the ball (relative to the bar) when "dribbling" laterally? Thanks again.

I can't speak for him but when I use a brush pass I dribble the ball where I release the ball.. just before the pinch point. This way I can squeeze the ball out with a lot of speed and it uses very little effort on my wrist. Once you find where that spot is, start tossing from there (test your wall and your lane without the ball moving at first). This way you can pass all of your options with the same toss and same release point under the rod. If you need to toss the ball differently for a wall than you do for a lane a good player will pick up on that right away.

Cameron Burrows Thanks for the reply. I want to be sure I follow this. I need to first find the sweet spot for a brush pass and wherever the ball is for that relative to the bar, I need to maintain that ball position for the dribble/toss as well ?

The simplest answer would be to back pin the ball on the 5, and put downward pressure on the ball. It should not move as it is pinned. Move the ball forward ever so slightly and push down again. It should still be pinned, but not as firmly. Keep doing this until you are able to do a straight pass with precise control. That's what you want...to have the ball back as far as possible, but still able to go straight. There are probably other videos on the web that show the mechanics of the brush, but this is not that kind of video - sorry :-) It's kinda for players who have already mastered the mechanics, and want to explore the power of the mental side of the game. Thanks!

FooserX I just read Cam's response, and yes...he's right. There's a sweet spot...but it can be a little complicated because some brushers pass with the ball further ahead than others for more power and less angle (Boogie in CO)....and then others pass with the ball further back for more angle. But I would say as far back as you can without compromising the straight forward pass.

FooserX The entire ball is behind the bar. I'll have to retrain on dribbling with the ball there. There's not much margin for error back there when dribbling. :-)
