There's no better hiphop tutor on KZbin that packs every minute full of information and guidance. Big respect Heat.

Props for mentioning Kev Brown. Mad underrated producer!

Another quick tip which is something that madlib does a lot is to filter all the highs out of the sample and then truncate that first note and play it in keyboard mode. Now you have a bass sound that is going to fit the sample sonically because its from the sample and it will also be in key.

🇿🇦 A lot of people would dump on FL Studio especially back in the days again it's good to find someone I can relate to and learn from. There's not a lot of boombap producers who use FL

True. FL had a bad rep early on because people didn’t understand that a computer could produce close to the same sound as the hardware they were using. Nowadays everything is available at the push of a button.

People dumped on it because it was still called FUITY LOOPS!!! Think about it... we were using a computer program that sounded like a bowl of cereal to make music!?!? I just didn't tell people. I also had a crazy hardware setup so they never really knew. Crazy part is I can do way more with FL now than I could do back then with my hardware. Not being able to recall session settings with hardware was a killer for me.

@@endlessthespokesperson6876 I started out with Fruity Loops 2 that I downloaded from Limewire. My comment was for the people I knew here in Baltimore. There were tons of project studios around and ppl were big on the ASR10 for tracks. FL didn't really start jumping here until the house music producers realized it was a lot easier to make a bunch of tracks with little to no money. Everyone just passed around copies of the same install CD for free...

L2 by WAVES is a good one, izotope ozone is good as well. If you are in FL Studio, maximus is great as well. 💯💯
