I am going to start keeping bees soon. I got all the training from my local Beekeepers Association. They are remarkable creatures and their life-cycle is so interesting!!! Does anyone here breed ladybugs or lacewings?

Clover plants with flowers attract bees like crazy. I have about a 6'×6' patch in my garden that comes back every year here in Ontario Canada and it does wonders for bees

I love them all- especially the bees, or sky kitties as I have seen them called on KZbin channels. They are adorable and funny and very intelligent. They recognise me every day, as the person who feeds them sugar water, even if I am some distance away. They will walk all over my hands, stop, and groom themselves, especially when I rescue them from a pool. I feel sorry for the male bees though, even though they cannot/do not sting.

Great video! Yet, remember honey bees are NOT native to N. America and were brought by colonists in the early 1600's. Though honey bees do pollinate flowers, native bees are much more effective pollinators and are often ground dwelling. I was disappointed that native bees were not mentioned in the video.

As a person who has an allergy to bee stings and ant bites, I have to be really careful in the garden by wearing pants and rubber boots and arm coverings and carry my epi pen just in case i get attacked. I understand the importance of the bees and will give them plenty of room to do their jobs.

I live in SW Iowa. Each summer it's dryer. We're currently in a draught and I haven't seen any bumblebees, honeybees, or any other bees. I noticed that my petunias, which get water, looked beautiful and overnight they started drooping. Even before they open. Could this be due to lack of bees?
@donnaleveron57115 жыл бұрын
Agree, we NEED bees and butterflies. Over use of herbicides and pesticides on home lawns as well as farms are destroying them. Go organic!

Hi Jag, great video! What plant varieties attract predatory insects? Also, have you found any effective way to eliminate (or control) spider mites?
@DaisyCreekFarms6 жыл бұрын
Predatory insects are attracted by their food source such as aphids, mealy bugs, and spider mites. Flowers also attract predatory insects. Plant flowers or let some of your dill, cilantro, mustard, basil, and other herbs bolt and flower and go to seed. This way you ca collect seeds as well. For spider mites, you can also use pure castille soap and neem oil spray.

Why i sblacksoldier fly always not included. they recycle waste very fast, they provide nutrients to the soil, they provide free food for other animals and they compete with common house flies. They are not as glamorous as pollinators, or as valiant as predators but they are just as important.
