Thin ribbon might be pretty but if it doesn't work well, thin yarn could be better than embroidery floss and probably less expensive. There are yarns that are glittery or fuzzy that could be pretty.

Yes, same here, particularly the seams. Plus sewing was my profession and as for using a large kilt pin to pull through to the right side, we didn’t have time for that, we sewed and turned at the same time.

Sadly a lot of home economics departments have been shut for some time (read decades) in most UK schools. Unless these skills are learned at home they're not getting passed on at all. When a young neighbour didn't even know the basics of how to cook for herself and her baby, I tried to teach her a little and she had a Jamie Oliver gaming console game of all things to learn from too! How anyone can leave home and not know how to boil an egg or pasta is horrifying!

None of these are outdated, they just aren't typically seen nowadays. I've used a number of them recently - especially the flat felled seams you showed, I use that one all the time in making historically accurate garments. Although I will say I've never seen the technique with the dark fabric and yellow embroidery floss before. BTW, you shouldn't be showing beginner sewists that it's ok to sew over pins!! All you sewists out there, sewing over pins can mess up the timing of your sewing machine. Each time the needle hits a pin it puts the timing out of whack and it adds up over time. Don't believe me? When you take your machine for maintenance ask the sewing machine doctor. It can be an expensive lesson to learn. Not to mention you can google sewists that had the needle or pin break and go flying into their face or eye...it's not a pretty sight. And you should not tie elastic ends together. If leaves you with a large noticeable lump and the knot can come loose over time meaning you'll have to unpick your hand stitches in the scrunchie, redo the elastic, then re-hand sew the last seam. I'd rather save myself the time by overlapping the elastic ends and sewing them together using a seam along both ends to keep the elastic from unravelling.

4-й называется запошивочный шов, если вы не знали, всегда использовался для пошива постельного белья, не то что сейчас-прострочили 1 раз и все, после третьей стирки все развалилось😂

These are not tips. They are just ways of doing something, like making a scrunchie and it's not outdated. They've always been made this way. You did the flat fell seam twice so that's not a separate thing.

@Leonseya попробуйте прокладывать строчки, ориентируясь на край лапки. Одной рукой направляйте и придерживайте ткань перед лапкой, другой - придерживайте сзади, там, где уже проложен шов. Ровные швы - дело времени. Тренируйтесь, и ваши ручки станут такими, как нужно. Удачи!

Потренироваться ровно строчить можно просто: возьмите лист бумаги и нарисуйте на нём разные линии: кривые, углами и т.д. Удалите нитки из машинки и старайтесь иголкой попадать по линии)) Сделайте это несколько раз, всё получится!
