It's really confusing the way it's written when he drops the 2 from the 2x in the denominator. Another way to look at it is you have x^18-2r * (1/2x)^r. you will divide out the (1^r/2) and multiply the x^18-2r into the numerator (leaving the x^r in the denominator). so the general term of the equation would look like 9Cr(1^r/2)(x^18-2r/x^r). The exponent principal x^a/x^b=x^a-b is applied x^18-2r-r=x^18-3r. Finally the general term of the formula is 9Cr(1^r/2)(x^18-3r) since we are trying to find the term containing x^3, we take the isolated x term and set them equal to each other, and because they are like base, we can drop the base and solve for r. X^3=X^18-3r, 3=18-3r, 15=3r, 5=r. I hope that helps some of you out. Maybe I should make a youtube video clarifying this youtube video 😂 I'm still just learning this myself.

​@@johneduful1723 it will come as -3r = -15 as the overall will be 18-2r-r simplified to 18-3r = 3 ... then u send the 18 to the other side making it -3r = 3-18 Which is -3r = -15 ... so the negative sign gets canceled as they are on both sides ...giving 3r = 15
