Lots of wisdom in this video. I’m an older retired guy. I agree with everything Justin said. I was able to retire at 58. Follow his advice. Never buy a new car. Depreciation sucks. I recently bought a used e89. I do almost all my own maintenance but I still had the best BMW Indy around do a pre-purchase inspection. Cost $125. He gave a good written report and I’m using that report as a list for preventative maintenance I’m doing now.

Great content Justin, Love watching your videos brotha! I own a 2007 328XI and it’s been quite a journey with this baby. I purchased it Jan 2017 with 99k miles, right at the 10 year mark, when everything started to fail LOL It’s a beautiful car with only 1 previous owner who had it serviced always at the dealership, but a few months into my purchase things unfortunately started happening lol I’ve done all repairs by DIY, because if not I would legit go broke lol As of now I’ve change the Starter, Control Arms, Strut Mounts, Battery, Bulbs, Valve Cover Gasket, Ac Hose Line, Alternator, and more lol Bought the car for 8k and over 10k into it now. If I sell it I will be lucky to get 7-8k back. For all my people out there, just do your due diligence before getting into something! Like the saying goes “ you can’t own a BMW and be in a relationship at the same time” 😂 My girlfriend hates my car, and for now I’m still in this love triangle haha

Well your mistake is to get a car with high milage. You have spent almost 20k on a car that is 10 years old with 100k miles. With that money you could buy a brand new modern car. Any car with that milage will require extensive services like struts, control arms, battery, alternator, starter etc. and even then they may never perform right. Of course high tech cars have more advanced components hence more things to break.
@InGrindWeCrust2010 Жыл бұрын

Justin - another really nice video. I really must agree with the “Don’t buy any add-ons at the Dealership”. You’re right these things cost way too much. We were leasing my wife’s CLA250 a few years ago and they tried to sell us a $700 paint sealer/treatment. Now on a 3 year lease that made no sense at all as the paint would surely hold up and the extra cost would have been a total waste.

Just bought a bmw 2002 for my first car and I got completely screwed over. Just brought it in to a shop and they said it will cost more to get roadworthy/smogged than what the car is worth. ALWAYS get a pre purchase inspection it’s worth every penny and also if you see any red flags like rushing the deal or anything RUN AWAY. Also I didn’t keep any extra money to fix it so that was a big mistake. Anyways I learned a lot and this video covers a lot of what I learned the hard way.

@3150xYz5 жыл бұрын
I haven’t watched the video yet these are my mistakes over the last few years (obviously now I fixed up, my current car is good). The most important one is checking the car over even if the car is $1000 just to get your shirt dirty and go underneath the car check for oil leaks check for signs of accident damage like in the boot the front bumper... see that the fenders lineup and also check all over and make sure the electronics work, do you know how much a simple window regulator can cost? Or do you know how much the AC can cost to fix? Meaning check this stuff. Also if you’re buying a car on finance add up all the figures.. even if it means wasting the dealers time ... be sure find out exactly how much the car is costing you too own..... you can’t trust most dealers they’ll add on their own markup you will never know they are very sleazy. If the car is of high value something like $4000 or more just pay a mechanic to check the car up trust me you’ll never regret it.

@RonnieGreher5 жыл бұрын
“Never buy an extended warranty”. That’s really important. New or used, don’t do it. I recently bought a Certified used car at a dealer. The warranty would have added a little to the monthly payments, but was still over $1K. When I declined, they offered a special discount. So the question in my mind was, how can they still make money on this AND cover repairs that may arise. It’s pure profit. The business manager at a dealer, not the salesperson, tries to sell you this. They employ high pressure tactics. When I said no, he had scripted responses that put me on the defensive. It was ridiculous. Scare tactics followed. I didn’t buy the warranty in the end, but it took me a few days to finalize that decision. Buying a car from a dealer, new or used, is still an awful experience. I’ve purchased and/or leased 12 new and 3 used over the past 33 years. I will say that with my local BMW dealer, things were straightforward and easy. Unfortunately I really can’t afford them anymore. I was buying much more than I should have been (see Justin’s video 😀). I agree with everything you said, but I would never buy a used or out of warranty BMW myself. Since your’s was new there have been many more tech add ons. Those cars are not designed to last at all. Plastic parts, specialized tools, and more. Honda, Toyota, and maybe a few others for me now.

Looking for a E90 as my first car so thanks for the tips! I will be saving up to get one hopefully next year as I am soon graduating from high school and heading to college. Hoping to get a LCI 325i or 328i with a manual transmission and spend anywhere from $6500-$8000. I'm debating if I would rather spend more than 2 years from now saving up to buy outright or finance for 3 years with a $2500-$3500 down payment (if I get approved or get help by family) next year. Just don't feel comfortable losing 50% of my income immediately while being in college so that's why I'm considering the finance route. I think it will be a great first car to also hold onto for a long time (hence why I rather have a LCI). Any saying that will help me decide on my finance decision will be appreciated! Until then, I am going to rely on public transportation and keep on living where I live now instead of paying for a dorm.

I wish this video came out 2 weeks ago...I made the mistake of buying a Subaru without getting a pre-inspection first and I learned a tough lesson as a result. It needed more work than I had anticipated so I'm now trying to sell it for parts to recouperate some of my money. Personally I would not buy a rebuilt car, but especially not a rebuilt BMW. These cars are incredibly complicated. When they are involved in an accident, it’s impossible to know the real extent of the damage. Like a wire somewhere that got frayed and is now causing mysterious electrical problems. That’s just me though. Another issue is that full coverage insurance usually isn’t offered for rebuilt cars. Clean title E90’s are cheap now too. You can find them under $5k easily.

Just read an article that something like 6 or 7 out of the 10 worst depreciating vehicles were BMWs (worst was Maserati!) - drives home the point that you don't want to buy a new car and take that kind of a hit on depreciation after you drive it off the dealer's lot. Remember: EVERYONE drives a used car! I like pre-ding'd cars as it is such a terrible feeling to take the first rock chip in the windshield or paint scratch when you haven't parked far enough away from the door to the mall!
