The oil change myth is somewhats true depending of the engine that your car has. For example if you have an engine like a 1.0 ecoboost of puretech 3 cylinder you are recommended to change the oil more frequently to prevent any long term issues.

Even with modern engines, idling to warm up the engine before driving off at below freezing for about 10 SECONDS is a good idea to get the oil to all places in the engine. More importantly until you see the temperature gauge move, avoid full throttle.

Remember when your car used to go until the engine wore out? Now they break down at about 100.00 miles with catistophic engine failure. It all seemed to start when we started using synthetics oils. I have always used a mineral diesel engine oil and changed it regular. No problems, bearing in mind diesel engine oil is a detergent oil that cleans your engine at the same time. Perhaps having plastic chain tensioners does not help either.

BS Modern cars last much longer and require much less maintenance.

@2:35, not all higher performance engines require a higher compression ratio as most now are turbo, or super-charged and actually have a lower mechanical compression ratio.

All engines over time will loose power as parts wear out. Sometimes an engine can loose 5% of its power per year

BS to you also, the last car l had did over 400.000miles, l have 2 cars now and they have done over 200,000 each. When l worked on aircraft, we used high detergent oil mineral oil on Lycoming engines and synthetic oil on jet engines because high flow and high cooling was required for the roller bearings. We really avoided synthetic oils on aircraft, only used on the hydraulics of civilian aircraft because it did not burn. Military aircraft all used mineral based oil because of its lubrication qualities.

Sadly, experience dictates not all of this is true. This guy is simply reading from the manufacturers owners manual and narrating it in this video. First tip - oil changes every 3k miles. While this is excessive, the owner who changes his/her oil every 3k miles will get way more serviceable life from the engine than one that is serviced every 20k miles. Au contraire to common belief, engine oils haven't improved that much!. An owner who has a BMW with the N47 or N57 engine who changes the oil every 6-10k over the 18-22k miles that the manufacturer recommends will probably never have to replace the timing chain or main bearings. There is a reason why these engines fail. It's not simply because of the design and placement of the timing chain, it's about how BMW tried to cut down on fleet servicing costs by squeezing every last mile out of the engine oil between services. 6-10k oil changes will do far less harm to the engine, your wallet and the environment than 20k oil changes. As for dish soap and car washing = the guy is 100% right. Premium gasoline I will also go along with. Morning fuelling only makes sense if you own an LPG car. You will get more LPG in the tank during winter than you will in summer. Idling to warm up the engine - as long as you allow a brief period before drive off - 1-2 mins from a cold winter start, you'll do less harm to the engine in the long run, but yes, agreed, from cold the engine will run richer and therefore you will have some oil dilution with petroleum vapour in the blow by. It is better to allow the engine to idle rather than ragging the hell out of it from cold.
